Dealing with your monthly period can be a pain. Not only does it make you miserable for a few days, but all the hormonal fluctuations often result in acne breakouts.

The changes in hormones often increase oil production, which makes skin more oily than normal. Unfortunately, this often increases the chance that you’ll deal with a breakout.

prevent-breakouts-1

While you might not be able to completely eradicate these monthly problems, you can do some things to reduce the risk that you’ll deal with acne at that time of the month. Here are a few tips you can follow to stop those hormonal breakouts.

What Should You Do?

① Prevention Tips for Days 1-25
To prevent hormonal breakouts right before your period, you need to take care of your skin during the rest of your cycle. Make sure that you cleanse skin regularly to keep inflammation and clogged pores at bay.

To keep the skin from producing more sebum, keep sweets and fried foods to a minimum. Great foods to eat include fish, veggies and fruits. They’ll help cleanse out your body, keeping breakouts away.

② Prevention Tips for Days 26-28
This is the time when you are most likely to end up dealing with hormonal breakouts. You’re probably dealing with mood swings and other symptoms of PMS.

Spend some time pampering yourself. Use some high-quality beauty products, such as face masks, bubble baths, and even massage oils to make yourself feel better.

A massage or a bubble bath will help relax you, reducing your stress levels. Keeping your stress levels low is important since stress often makes breakouts worse.

③ During the Monthly Period
Now that you’re dealing with your period, your skin is extra sensitive. This means you want to avoid having a facial, a deep skin peel, a massage or a sauna.

Harsher procedures could result in inflammation or scarring at this time of the month. Let your skin have a rest while you’re having your period and avoid using new beauty products since the skin is so sensitive.

④ Pre-Period and During Your Period
Right before you have your period and when you’re having your period, skip those harsh acne products. During this time, skin is extremely sensitive. Your skin is more likely to be irritated at this time, so you don’t want to make the problem worse by using products that irritate your skin.

It’s actually pretty easy to keep skin in control, stopping hormonal breakouts from occurring.

Just make sure that you spend time caring for your skin and avoid any harsh products or procedures when you are dealing with your period.

By gently taking care of skin, you’ll find it easier to keep those breakouts at bay. By using these tips, you’ll keep skin looking gorgeous, so you won’t have to worry about another problem when you’re dealing with PMS and your period.
