Here’s What Your Skin Has to Say About Your Health

Do you have any concerns about your health? Perhaps taking a look at your skin can give you some useful insight. As the largest bodily organ, the skin can say a lot about your overall health.

If you’re suffering from a dermatological problem, chances are that it’s a symptom of something else.

Each skin issue could be connected to a particular health problem. Getting professional assessment in such instances is the best way to go.

Here are some of the most common skin problems and everything that you need to know about their causes:

Acne

Acne breakouts are so common that most people will immediately dismiss the issue. The appearance of pimples, however, could be indicative of another health problem.

Internal cause: Toxic buildup is one of the common causes of acne. If your liver is incapable of dealing with all of the toxins, chances are that the condition of your skin will be affected. Leaky gut is another common cause of toxic buildup that affects the skin.

There is one more cause of acne – hormonal imbalance. Though changes in hormone levels prior to ovulation and during your period could lead to the appearance of pimples, the hormonal imbalance could actually be caused by a medical issue. Talk to your doctor about it.

Eczema

Various kinds of allergies could trigger eczema. Your diet may contain foods that you’re experiencing a reaction to.

Going on a strict diet and eliminating many of the products that you’re used to will help you pinpoint the ones that could be triggering eczema.

Internal cause: Poor digestion and intestinal problems are another common cause of eczema. Try foods that will not irritate the digestive tract for a couple of days. The condition of your skin may improve.

Combating stress will also improve your digestion and reduce the severity of eczema.

Rosacea

At least 16 million Americans suffer from rosacea. This unpleasant skin condition could once again be caused by a toxic buildup or a bacterial imbalance in the body.

Internal cause: Toxic overload is one of the most common issues that result in skin problems. In addition, there could be a bacterial imbalance that is aggravating the situation even further.

Rosacea is quite often accompanied by symptoms like bloating, which link the skin problem to digestive issues.

Puffiness Underneath the Eyes

Though many ladies consider eye puffiness to be a cosmetic problem associated to insufficient hours of sleep, there could be other causes.

Internal cause: A diet that contains too much sodium (the excessive consumption of salt) will lead to water retention. The under-eye area is very sensitive, which is why it may appear puffy and swollen in the morning.

If the puffy bags underneath your eyes are dark in color, the tiny capillaries in the area are probably leaking blood. Strengthening the blood vessels through a healthy diet is a great option for restoring the beauty of the skin underneath the eyes.

Dark Spots or Skin Discoloration

The unprotected exposure to sunlight is a common cause of dark spots but it’s not the only one. Skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation could be an early diabetes symptoms.

Internal cause: Take a look at the dark spot. If it has brownish-gray color and it appears to be somewhat velvety, you probably have a medical problem. Diabetes-related dark spots will usually appear on the neck, in the groin area or the armpits.

Dry Skin, Brittle Nails

So many people are affected by dry skin and they simply think that the insufficient sebum production is to blame for this skin problem.

If dry skin is accompanied by brittle nails, however, chances are that something else is also wrong.

Internal cause: A thyroid problem could express itself in this way. Nutritional deficiencies could also contribute to excessively dry skin. Up your vitamin A and your omega-3 fatty acid intake.

Cracked Lips

Cold weather could make your lips crack but you could also be suffering from a deficiency of vitamins from the B group.

There are great supplements you can try or you can opt for a list of the best natural sources of B vitamins. Incorporating those in your everyday diet will make your lips less prone to cracking.

Yellow Eyes

Liver problems will contribute to unusually yellow coloring of the eyes. Talk to your physician immediately, if you happen to experience this problem.

Blue Gums

A reaction to a medication is the most common cause of your gums turning blue. Think about pharmaceutical products you took recently and remain alert for more serious symptoms of a reaction.

Itchy Rashes

Any kind of itchy rash could be indicative of digestive problems.

Do you have a blistering, excessively uncomfortable rash on any part of your body? Chances are that you’re experiencing gluten intolerance or Celiac’s disease. A simple blood test can help you confirm the condition.

Excessive Amounts of Facial Hair

A little bit of facial hair is normal, though most women hate it and look for ways to permanently get rid of hair.

Internal cause: Too much facial hair in women, however, is often a symptom of a hormonal problem.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common causes of excessive facial hair. It is also characterized by irregular periods and serious PMS symptoms.

Orange Skin Tint

The consumption of excessive amounts of foods containing beta carotene could contribute to orange looking skin.

Gray Skin

Does your skin appear to be grayish and lifeless? Poor circulation could be one problem.

Keep in mind that the symptom could be indicative of an impending heart attack – seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Solutions for glowing skin:

Detox daily: With the insane amount of toxins we’re exposed to on a daily basis, the body needs all the help it can get to detoxify and keep its skin glowing and clear.

To detoxify daily, try dry brushing, oil pulling, alternating hot/cold in the shower, drinking detoxifying teas such as ginger, turmeric and milk thistle, and incorporating foods such as apple cider vinegar, spirulina and tons of vegetables.

Balance hormones: Avoid sugar and processed foods, reduce stress, support your detoxification organs and eat a hormone-balancing diet.

Eat nutrient-dense foods: Getting the right amount of macro and micro nutrients in your diet is just as important as getting the toxins out.

Our skin needs certain nutrients to be healthy and glowing. Particularly Vitamin A, Zinc, Vitamin C, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Biotin, Vitamin E, Pantothenic Acid (vitamin B5), Selenium, Silica, Niacin, Vitamin K2, and Probiotics.

These can be found in a variety of foods, including leafy greens and vegetables, fruit (berries in particular), nuts and seeds, organic animal products such as fish, eggs, organ meats and superfoods like chia seeds, spirulina and fermented foods.
