Shiny hair, luscious locks – all ladies want them. The problem is that some mistakes can be committed during washing, conditioning and styling, mistakes that will stand in the way of getting that perfect appearance.
Are you guilty of the biggest hair care sins? The following list will help you figure out whether you are committing some serious mistakes.
① Not Brushing Before Washing
A damage double-whammy: Hair is weakest when it’s wet, and wet hair is more prone to tangling. How many people do you know that brush their hair before having a shower?
That is right, these individuals belong to a minority group. Wet hair can easily get tangled unless you comb it through before hopping in the shower. You can comb the hair while having a shower but apply the conditioner beforehand to make the detangling process easier.
② Brushing the Ends Only
We all know that excessive brushing and combing is a bad idea. Some ladies, however, go a step too far in the attempts to prevent damage. Not brushing your locks or brushing solely the tips is preventing the distribution of sebum. Brushing your hair through every now and then will make it shiny and healthy.
③ Chronic Washing
Many girls wash their hair every single day, which is great in terms of aesthetics but it strips locks of the essential oils that keep them healthy. Sebum production is vital for beautiful hair. Shampoo usage on a daily basis will often make hair brittle and lifeless.
Try to wash your hair every other day. If you feel the need to do something about it, rinse it solely with water or use only conditioner.
④ Under or Over-Conditioning
A general rule of thumb is to apply conditioner solely to the ends of your hair. If you have fine hair, however, the use of larger quantities of conditioner will be justified.
Using too much is not a good idea for ladies having normal hair and for the ones whose hair gets greasy easily. Instead of going for too much conditioner, use a deeply nourishing mask once per week.
⑤ Intense Towel Drying
Do you like to rub your hair with a towel after having a shower? Being overly-enthusiastic with this procedure is one of the most common reasons for frizz and easy breakage.
Use the towel to only blot your hair dry. You can detangle it with your fingers and blow-dry it later on.
⑥ Skipping Heat Protection
The product that protects your hair from heat damage should be your best friend, especially if you style your hair every single day.
Heat protective sprays and oils “shield” the follicles from heat damage. You have a wide range of product possibilities to choose among. Apart from using a heat protective spray, you should also get in the habit of adjusting your styling tools to lower heat settings. You will need more time to get perfect results, but your hair will suffer less damage.
⑦ Using Hot Irons on Damp Hair
Wet hair and hot tools don’t mix. Curling and flat irons can burn the follicles of damp strands, leading to weak and broken tresses. Hair should be completely dry before heat styling, period. Even when you’re in a rush.
⑧ Using Hairspray Before Styling
Most hairspray varieties contain alcohol. Using hairspray before heat styling is a really bad idea because the alcohol will burn. You will often hear a sizzling noise that results from the alcohol getting heated. You could be doing some serious damage so get in the habit of using hairspray after you are completely done with styling.
⑨ Being in Love with Teasing
How often do you tease your hair? If it happens more often than occasionally, you are doing a major mistake.
Backcombing hair will lead to root damage if you are a habitual teaser. There are many volumizing products you can use instead of teasing. They will give your locks wonderful texture without causing any damage.
⑩ Thinking You Can Mend Split Ends
Split ends cannot be fixed. Instead of trying to mend the situation, do your best to prevent their appearance.
Heavy oil is perfect for keeping the ends of your hair healthy. Argan oil is one possibility. If you are looking for something a bit more affordable, you can opt for olive or coconut oil. A regular trim is also essential for maintaining the tips in a safe and healthy state.

What about using heat protection sprays? I mean even they are liquids and If I apply them before styling the hair is damp and when I use the iron it does produces a sizzling sound…
So what should I do? Apply the protection spray and wait for the hair to get dry? These sprays should be applied before styling, so what is the solution?
