No matter if you like a natural or glam look to your makeup, there is one thing that is a must: clean brushes. It doesn’t matter the quality of your brushes, but it is a must to keep them clean. People often overlook this simple step as it seems like a chore but is rather crucial for two reasons.
Firstly, bacteria builds up on your brushes, which you are then putting on your face, lips and eyes.
Only when you suffer from skin irritations, acne and eye infections you realize how annoying these conditions are and regret the fact that you were too lazy to clean up the brushes.
Secondly, you want your makeup to go on flawlessly, and having dirty bushes will give you a muddied look and ruin the effort you put into making yourself look put together.
- 1.5 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp hand soap or dish soap (baby shampoo is good too)
① Pour 2 tbsp. of dish soap and 1.5 tbsp. of olive oil on a plate
② Dip your brush in the solution and rub it in a circular motion in the palm of your hand. The color will start coming out of the brush.
③ Rinse the brush by rubbing it in a circular motion in your palm under water.
④ Rub the brush against an old towel to make sure that all the makeup on it has come off. If it hasn’t repeat until clean.
⑤ Lay the brushes on an old towel overnight or until dry or you can dry your brushes upside down by using clothes pins or bag clips. This keeps water from running into the handle and wrecking your brush.
