Homemade DIY Whitening Skin Toners That Work for Every Skin Type

It’s important to use a toner as a part of your regular skincare routine. Toners help cleanse, refresh, and hydrate your skin. If you check your local store for herbal skin toners, you’ll find that they are expensive.

In many cases, they have chemicals that may not work well with your skin type. Making your own skin toner at home allows you to control the ingredients, creating a toner that provides natural fairness and an instant glow to the skin.

I’ve put together a group of great skin toners that use natural ingredients. All you need to do is find one that works for your skin type. The toners include all natural, whitening compounds that will penetrate deeply into the skin, providing you with radiant, fair skin.

With a combination of different herbs, these DIY skin toners will tone, hydrate, and energize the skin. When you begin using these toners regularly, they’ll eliminate many different skin care problems, such as sun spots, dark spots, dark patches of skin, flaky skin, acne, and more. Choose the one that best works for your unique skin type.

① DIY Sensitive Skin Toner
If you have sensitive skin, you may deal with dryness, itching, redness and inflammation. This means that your skin requires some special care. Individuals with sensitive skin often deal with allergic reactions to certain ingredients found on skincare products.

This toner is very gentle on sensitive skin. It works to gently improve skin tone and remove impurities from the skin without resulting in irritation.

4-1
You’ll Need:

  • Powdered Sugar
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Honey
  • Saffron

Directions:
Grab few strands of saffron and place them in a (8 oz) cup of water and let it sit overnight.

The next day, filter and pour the saffron water into a spray bottle, and you can add 1 tbsp of raw honey, 2 tbsp aloe vera gel and 1 tbsp of powdered sugar.

Store in the fridge for at least 15-20 days and shake well before using.

How To Use:
Use a cotton pad/ball soaked in this mixture and gently wipe it on your face. You can use this toner 3x a day for best result.

Skin Benefits
Since sensitive skin is so sensitive to heat and the sun, this toner helps to keep the skin protected from inflammation, redness, and UV damage.

The sugar, honey, and aloe vera offer moisturizing, soothing properties, cleansing skin without resulting in dryness. The saffron in the toner helps to whiten skin, providing you with a radiant complexion.

② DIY Dry Skin Toner
If you have dry skin, your skin needs nourishment and deep moisturization to eliminate the problem with dryness.

Dry skin gets even worse in the winter months, and dry skin can result in wrinkles, crow’s feet, and unsightly white patches of skin.

This leaves your skin looking dull and aged. Just splashing skin with water makes skin feel tight and stretched. You can make your own natural skin toner, using ingredients that will cleanse, moisturize, and tone skin without eliminating the natural oils of the skin.

3-1

You’ll Need:

  • Coconut Milk
  • Orange Peels
  • Vitamin E Oil

Directions:
In a pot, Mix 1 cup of coconut milk and add some orange peels into it, then pour 1/2 cup of water (distilled or bottled water) and let it boil for 5-10 minutes on a very low fire.

Turn off the stove once the mixture is boiling and let it cool down. After it cooled down, you can filter and transfer the mixture into a glass bottle, and you can now add 3 Vitamin E gels (just cut open the gel and squirt of the oil).

Shake well, and your toner is ready to use. Store in the fridge for at least 10-12 days but discard if the mixture smells rancid. Shake well before using.

How To Use:
Use a cotton pad or ball and apply this toner into your cleanse face before you apply your favorite moisturizer. Use this morning and night for best result.

Skin Benefits
This dry skin toner includes vitamin E oil, coconut milk, and orange peels. These ingredients work together to naturally hydrate skin and whiten your complexion.

The vitamin E and coconut milk have skin nourishing ingredients and natural emollients that help to smooth, plump, and soften skin. The orange peels contain vitamin C, which rejuvenates skin, improves radiance, and provides brightness.

③ for Normal Skin
Normal skin is well balanced and is not too oily or too dry. Individuals with normal skin usually don’t have a lot of acne, pimples, or wrinkles. Pores are usually barely visible. However, even the normal skin type needs some care to rejuvenate and brighten the complexion.

You’ll Need:

  • Rosemary leaves
  • Honey
  • Rose Petals
  • Lemon juice

Directions:
Make an herbal infusion of fresh rosemary leaves and rose petals. To make an infusion, pour 1 cup of hot steaming water over a 1/4th cup of chopped rosemary leaves and rose petals. Cover with a lid and simmer in a very low fire for 5 minutes.

Allow the mixture to cool completely. Mix 2 Tbsp of lemon juice and 1 Tbsp of honey and add this to the mix. Stir well. Filter and pour this water into an empty glass bottle and store in the refrigerator for at least 12-15 days but discard once the mixture smells rancid.

How To Use:
Apply this homemade toner into your face using cotton pad/ball 2x a day (preferably morning and night). Shake well before use.

Skin Benefits
To make your own normal skin toner, you’ll need rose petals, rosemary leaves, lemon juice, and honey. These ingredients will come together to give you energized, hydrated, refreshed and smooth skin.

The botanical extracts help to eliminate dirt and impurities from pores. The antibacterial and astringent properties offered by the ingredients will contribute to lightening dark spots, kill a pimple causing bacteria, and reveal younger, more radiant skin.

④ For Oily Skin or Acne-Prone Skin
Individuals who have oily skin commonly deal with large pores, whiteheads, acne, and blackheads. Oily skin produces more sebum, resulting in skin that looks sticky, thick and heavy. Bacteria, impurities, and dirt often accumulate in pores, resulting in clogged pores, which can cause acne to occur.

2-1
You’ll Need:

  • Lemon zest or lemon peels
  • Lemon Grass
  • Rose water

Directions:
Mix the zest of 2 lemons with 1/2 cup of lemon grass (finely chopped) to 2 cups of rose water. Boil this water for 15 minutes on a low flame. Allow the water to cool completely. Filter and strain the water into a plastic bottle. You can store this skin toner in the refrigerator for maximum about 30 days.

You can read my post here on how to make your own rosewater.

How To Use:
Wipe this homemade toner using a cotton pad/ball into your face. Make this as a routine every morning before your makeup application and apply this toner at night after washing your face. You can use moisturizer if needed.

Skin Benefits
These ingredients contain antioxidants and whitening compounds that will absorb into the skin quickly, helping to reduce the production of sebum.

It also replenishes and hydrates skin, giving you radiant, healthy looking skin. The lemon grass and rose water help to kill bacteria, purify skin, and tighten pores, leaving you with clear, clean skin.

      hi Divya,
After cleansing your face, apply the toner and after that, apply your moisturizer (and sunscreen if daytime).
Same goes in the morning. Let it sit around 10 minutes (moisturizer) before you apply the makeup.
