When it comes to making your skin firmer and more youthful, you will find dozens of massage techniques. If you’ve ever browsed through YouTube videos, you may have come across the Chinese spoons facial massage.
Its popularity has grown tremendously and many YouTubers are making such tutorials.
Since I was really interested in the possibility, I decided to do a little bit of additional research about it.
According to claims, the spoon massage is supposed to help with water retention or encourage drain puff-inducing lymph fluid and blood flow, also make the skin firmer, detoxify the face and make it appear slimmer.
The massage itself is relatively easy to do but you will have to find porcelain or ceramic Chinese spoons. Avoid using spoons made of plastic or metal since these could cause skin damage due to its sharp edges.
The procedure requires approximately 10 minutes of your time and you can either use one spoon or do the massage with two spoons to speed things up.
You’ll notice results after about 10 treatments but don’t stop there – repeat at least every other day (but no more than once daily) to maintain effects.
Doing the Asian Spoon Facial Massage
- The first thing you need to do is choose a good, natural oil or you can use a night cream. Raw coconut oil is a great possibility because it will minimize friction and nourish your face at the same time.
- Apply the oil (or night cream) to your facial skin before getting started with the spoon massage.
Now that you’ve gotten your skin ready, it’s time to learn what the most important massage steps are:
① Start at the forehead. Move the spoon towards your hairline – the massage should always be performed in a direction opposite to gravity.
② Start at the center of your forehead and move to the sides. Finally, scoop the skin from the center of your forehead to your temples.
③ Direct attention towards the eyebrows. Follow their natural shape (using the back of the spoon, which is the smallest part). Once you’re done, use the end of the spoon to massage your eyelids. Start from the inner corner and move towards the outer corner of the eye.
④ Next, you should massage the cheeks. Once again, follow the upward direction with the spoon.
Tip: If you want to cover a bigger surface, you may try turning the spoon on its side. The end of the spoon is great for massaging the area around your mouth and nose.
⑤ Once you cover the entire cheek surface, put the side of the spoon on your chin. Move along the jawline from the chin to the ears.
Make sure that you’re covering the region behind the ears, as well. Lymph nodes are located there and these massages can make it easier to get rid of toxins.
⑥ Complete 10 strokes in a row for each of the 6 sections, working from forehead to jaw on each side of your face. A little redness after the third or fourth stroke is normal and will go away in 5 to 10 minutes.
⑦ The final thing you need to do is scoop from the collarbone region to the central part of your chest. Move the spoon downward from the center of the chest to enhance the detox effect of these massages even further.
Apart from making your skin much better looking, the massage is also going to have a slimming effect. Keep in mind that the results will be temporary since the ceramic spoon is used to get rid of facial bloating.
If you want to maintain the slimness of your face and firmness of the skin, you will need to do the massage frequently.
