Besides saving money, making your own hair straightening gel can help save those shafts from the tortures of chemicals and too much heat. This gel doesn’t require a cupboard full of ingredients, a degree in chemistry to follow or days to create. You can make it from the ingredients in your cupboard quickly and easily and make your hair happy and healthy in the process.

This recipe of DIY hair straightening gel nourishes your hair follicles while it naturally straightens it. It contains a stockpot of vitamin, minerals, and proteins to give your hair a silky smooth feeling and, while it won’t give stick straight hair immediately, after several weeks of use, you’ll notice your hair will slowly change from frizzy curly to smooth, thick straight locks.

What Each Ingredient Does for Your Hair
The principal ingredients in this recipe is an extract you make from flaxseed.
① Flaxseed is known for its health properties when you eat it, but it also can be quite nourishing when applied to the hair. Hair is primarily protein, and flaxseed is a rich, nourishing source of protein that can help repair your hair, smooth it and is great Rx for damaged follicles. Flaxseed also contains omega-3 fatty acids, B1, copper, magnesium, phosphorus and selenium to help your hair grow strong by nourishing it at the base as it forms.

② Castor Oil – The castor oil in the mix is antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. It’s been used for years as a topical treatment. It also contains fatty acids that promote hair growth. It acts as a humectant that draws moisture into your hair and treats scalp infection, saying good-bye to dandruff. It’s a rich source of vitamin E, as well.

③ Lemon – The lemon juice provides vitamins and also helps fight dandruff while creating a shiny head of hair.

④ Honey and Aloe Vera Gel – You’ll get a deep conditioning from the honey and aloe vera gel and eliminate frizz by taming each shaft at the root, which leaves your hair strong, yet smooth and naturally straight.

What you need:

  • 3 tbsp Flaxseeds
  • 2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel or fresh aloe vera gel
  • 2 tbsp castor oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp raw honey

② Let it boil on a low flame for 2 minutes and stir it constantly. Once it gets sticky, remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Use a strainer to extract the gel from the mixture.

③ Now add the rest of the ingredients – 2 tbsp of aloe vera gel, 1 tbsp of lemon juice, 2 tbsp of castor oil and 2 tsp of honey and mix all the ingredients thoroughly.

Applying the Gel

  • Make sure you rinse your hair first in warm water to open the shafts (Or you can spritz warm water to damp your hair). This will allow the gel to enter or penetrate.
  • Divide your hair into small equal sections. Apply the gel and work it in gently, ensuring you cover each shaft from root to tip.
  • Using your fingers, pull each section of your hair straight down (or you can comb it down) and let it remain on the hair for 30 minutes then wash your hair with cool water and condition.
  • Squeeze the water out from your hair (do not towel dry). Comb your hair once and allow it to dry naturally (air dry).

What to Expect
Over a month of using this at least twice a week, you’ll notice a dramatic change in your hair from frizzy and curly to smooth, straight and lustrous.

      hi Donne,
Just wash/rinse and apply conditioner. But don’t towel dry your hair, just squeeze the excess water from your hair and let it air dry.

      hi Kachugovil,
Store this mixture in the fridge, it will last for 10 days or more but discard if the mixture smells rancid.

      hi Manisha Khalkho,
You need to use the flax seeds NOT the oil as this is the main ingredient.
