If you’re dealing with regular breakouts, leeks may be the answer to your problem. Ancient Egyptians, Romans and English royals have used leeks, and for good reason. Leeks provide a great nutritional punch, including important vitamins, such as vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin B-6, and vitamin A.

They are also high in magnesium and iron, not to mention their high fiber content. Leek juice offers a great treatment for acne, and you can use it topically and you can drink the juice for great skin benefits. Why drink or use leek juice topically? Here are just a few of the great benefits leeks have to offer.

beauty-recipe-1

How to Do:
Pound a few leeks with a mortar and pestle, squeeze out the juice and pass it through a strainer. Just before using, pour a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the juice – it will instantly turn milky.

Use a cotton pad/ball and dip it to the mixture and apply on the face. Let it sit for 15 minutes and rinse as usual. This is a terrific treatment for acne, plus it also keeps the skin soft and smooth.

Why it works: Leeks are anti-inflammatory and contain tons of quercetin, which is one of the beauty industry’s top antioxidants. They have also long been used to reduce scarring and figure in several drugstore treatments.

Detoxifies Skin
One of the benefits of leeks is their ability to help naturally detoxify skin. For many people, toxins cause acne breakouts, so leeks may provide some help. If you take leek juice internally, it acts as a natural diuretic, flushing away harmful toxins that can cause acne. This detoxification helps ensure skin looks beautiful.

Antioxidants Fight Free Radicals
Leeks also contain antioxidants, including vitamin C and quercetin. These antioxidants help to fight free radicals, both when used topically and internally. Antioxidants also help to reduce scarring and many skincare products use these antioxidants to improve skin.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Another benefit of using leeks to treat acne is the anti-inflammatory properties leeks offer. Inflammation is a common problem among people who are dealing with acne. The anti-inflammatory properties can calm that inflammation, helping to effectively treat acne.

Tip:
Make your own leek juice at home with a juicer. Apply to skin topically as a mask for acne or drink regularly to treat acne from the inside out. You can even use it both ways to enjoy optimum benefits. Not only will you enjoy great skincare benefits, but consuming leeks also offers other benefits, including promoting weight loss, preventing cancer, reducing inflammation in the body and aiding in digestion.
