How to Save Dry, Clumpy Mascara and Make it Lasts 2x Longer

For some reason, it’s always my favorite mascaras that end up drying out. Luckily, I’ve learned what causes the problem and how to save my favorite mascaras, so I don’t have to throw them away.

Why does mascara dry out and get clump?
When air gets in the tube, the air causes it to dry out. It is especially likely to happen when you’re using mascara that has a large wand. It’s easy to push air into the container when you put the wand back in.

save-mascara-1

If you want to avoid getting air in your mascara, make sure you don’t pump the wand in and out. This only pushes more air into the mascara, making it dry out a lot faster.

Before looking at the ways to save dry and clumpy mascara, remember that you shouldn’t be using mascara that is over six months old. If you use mascara for more than six months, you could end up getting an eye infection from bacteria. Invest in a new tube of mascara if your mascara is over six months old.

Tips for Saving Mascara So it Lasts Longer

① Tip #1 – Don’t Pump the Mascara

Many women simply pump the wand around to get some mascara on the brush. This only ends up shortening the life of your mascara, since you’ll introduce more air into the tube. When you add more air into the tube, then you make the tube a place where bacteria can breed, which can increase the risk that you’ll end up with an eye infection.

② Tip #2 – Look for a Slim Wand

Usually, I like to go with mascara that comes with a slim wand. The slender wand helps reduce the chance of air getting inside your mascara. The slimmer wand also is easy to use. A thick wand can make it harder to reach the outer corners of your lashes, but it’s a lot easier when you use a slim wand.

③ Tip #3 – Always Clean the Wand before Storage

Before you place the wand back into the tube, make sure you clean it. This helps you to prevent infection. Simply wipe away any excess mascara and then use some alcohol or makeup remember to cleanse the wand. After use wipe off the wand to cleanse it, rinse it well and then pat dry.

④ Tip #4 – Swirl Around the Wand
After you clean your wand, when you put it back, swirl it around in the mascara instead of pumping it up and down. By swirling the wand, you’ll make sure it is thoroughly coated with mascara. Then, close the cap of the mascara tightly. Doing this helps to lengthen your mascara’s life while preventing clumps in the future.

With these tips, you can avoid dry, clumpy mascara. You’ll be able to make your favorite mascaras last a lot longer, and you’ll also prevent eye infections as well. Begin using these tips today and get the most out of every tube of mascara you purchase.

You’ll Need:

  • Mug (Or microwave proof cup)

Directions:
① First, put 3-4 drops of Contact Solution (saline) in the mascara tube (you can add more or adjust the drops if you want).

eye-contact

② After putting in the drops, put the wand back in the tube and kind of swished it around inside a few times.
③ Test mascara. (Or go straight to next step (this is optional)
④ If your mascara still needs more help fill your mug with water and and put in microwave for about 2 minutes.
⑤ Place tightly closed mascara into the mug and let sit for 5 minutes.
⑥ Viola! your dry, clumpy mascara just got a face-lift.. that works like a new mascara!

It was like the tube was brand new. No clumps, not dried out. I applied a couple of coats to my lashes, and I couldn’t tell any difference from when I first bought it
