If you’ve ever taken pictures of yourself, at some point you’ve probably looked at the photo, only to do a double-take. That barely looks like you in the picture.
Then, you begin wondering if you look that way. You spend time making sure you look great, take a few photos with friends on your phone. At first, those pics look great when they are on your small Smartphone screen.
However, when you put them on your computer the next day you end up wondering if your arms really look that fat and if you really have a double chin.
Actually, when the camera is used at certain angles, it makes you look like you have flabby arms, or a double chin or wider hips than you really have. Sometimes you end up with weird shadows on the face or a strange smile. You don’t want to post those pics on your social media sites.
The good news is that you can use a few tips to take great pictures every time. I’ve learned these tips the hard way after being dissatisfied with so many of my unflattering pictures.
Before you snap that next photo, make sure that you keep the following tips in mind. You’ll look slimmer and pictures will turn out amazing.
How is this done? Just a couple simple tricks that you should begin using NOW.
Tip #1 – Turn Your Body at an Angle
If you take a photo straight on, it’s easy to look wider than you really are. For better photos, turn your body at an angle, whether you’re sitting or standing. It doesn’t matter which side you turn too. You don’t want to turn too far so you end up in profile, but give your body a ¾ turn to the side.
Tip #2 – Place a Hand on Your Hip
To make your arms look leaner, place your hand on your hip. It makes arms look slimmer and also helps to accentuate your waist, even if you have a thicker waist.
Tip #3 – Flirt with the Camera
It’s important to really engage with your camera when taking a photo. In fact, think of it as flirting with the camera. You want to make it look like you’re nearly bursting out of the picture. This puts a lot of life into your photo.
Tip #4 – Always Shoot the Photo From Above
If you try shooting pictures from below you, you end up with problems. It makes legs look shorter, arms look fatter, and you usually end up with a double chin. Make sure that you shoot the photo from above for the best results.
If you’re not taking the pic, tell the photographer to get up on a chair, a step or even on their tip toes. When you’re sitting for a photo, sit on the edge of the chair. It improves your posture, elongating your body and eliminating the look of any rolls.
Tip #5 – Move Your Body Weight Forward
Move your body weight forward when you’re taking a photo. Put the weight on your front foot if standing or move forward on your chair when sitting. It helps you better engage with the camera.
Tip #6 – Lift Your Chin Up
This helps avoid a double chin. Angle your chin just a bit and slightly lift it up. Even if you have a double chin this should help you avoid the problem in your photos.
Tip #7 – Peek Through Your Eyelashes
For a sexier look, peek out at the camera through your eyelashes. Many people try to keep their eyes open wide during pictures, but this won’t give you the look you want. When you want to look sexy, lower your lashes a bit and peek out coyly.
Tip #8 – Keep Your Back to the Sun
If you end up with the sun in your face, you’ll end up squinting, which ruins a great photo. Ensure that your back is to the sun so the photo is shot into the sun. It will keep you from looking like the person next to you smelled really bad.
Tip #9 – Avoid Pics While Drinking or Eating
It’s a good idea to just skip the pics when you are drinking or eating. If you’re drinking, your cheeks end up looking red, and eyes look sleepy. Pics of you chowing down on dessert never look great either. It’s best to take pics before everyone starts indulging in drinks or food.
Tip #10 – Keep Everyone on the Same Plane
Last, make sure you keep everyone in the picture on the same plane. This is especially important if you’re in a pic with others who are slimmer than you are.
Putting someone in the forefront will make them look bigger. Staying on the same plane will make everyone look about the same size.
Of course, don’t forget to smile. Keep your smile real. A fake smile never looks good. Even if you have to think of something that makes you laugh, make sure your smile isn’t forced or fake. A real smile will make any picture look amazing.
