Common Tummy Bloaters – Avoid or Reduce These Items for a Flatter Stomach

Everyone wants a flatter stomach, and even if you are doing your crunches and planks regularly, you still may notice that your tummy is a bit bloated. Unfortunately, certain foods, even some good ones, can make you bloated.

When you consume a lot of common tummy bloaters, your stomach will look larger, which is something you want to avoid. Here are some of the most common tummy bloaters that you should avoid altogether, or reduce in your diet for a flatter stomach.

1
Cruciferous Vegetables

Cruciferous veggies are so good for you, but unfortunately, the high fiber content of these veggies can make them puff up your stomach.

Veggies considered cruciferous include kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. These veggies are great for you – they’re not only filling, but they are super healthy and filled with essential nutrients.

You shouldn’t totally stop eating these veggies. However, stick with small servings when you eat them to avoid dealing with bloat.

2
Salty Processed Products

chips
Processed, salty foods are the enemy if you want a flatter stomach. Processed foods like cold cuts, canned soups, and chips all are packed with a lot of salt.

All that salt will make you start retaining water, which does nothing for the way your stomach looks. To avoid bloat, try to avoid eating processed, salty foods. You should also watch how much salt you cook with if you want to beat bloat.

3
Soda and Other Carbonated Beverages

It’s the bubbles in carbonated beverages, such as sodas, that are so wonderful and refreshing. While you probably love the bubbles, they don’t love you. Every time you swallow those little bubbles, you’re swallowing air bubbles.

The air ends up in your stomach, and yes, it ends up leading to bloat. To avoid looking like you have a muffin top, it’s better to skip the carbonated beverages altogether, drinking water instead.

4
Diet Foods and Artificial Sweeteners

yogurt
When you’re trying to get a flatter stomach, it’s tempting to turn to diet foods and foods with artificial sweeteners, so you don’t take in as much sugar. Unfortunately, your body doesn’t like these foods, and you may be left with bloat and gas.

Ingredients and foods to watch out for include frozen yogurt, sugar-free gum, aspartame, and sucralose. Beware of other products that have lots of ingredients you don’t recognize.

Instead, indulge in a small amount of the real food. A reasonable portion of the real stuff will be better for your waistline as long as you don’t binge; not to mention, it tastes better too!
