Nothing lasts forever and mascara is definitely no exception, but this never stopped me from wishing that my bottles would last just a bit longer. It is not necessarily the money, although I have to admit that cutting down on expenses is a priority for me, but also the inconvenience caused by finding a replacement that frustrates me.

Naturally, I am a sucker for do-it-yourself remedies but there is also an upside to this, because this is how I found out about this innovative way of extending the life of my mascara.

The solution is incredibly simple and since my current bottle of mascara was already running out, I decided to put it to the test. With nothing to lose I followed the advice and inserted few drops of saline solution into the bottle, hoping that this trick will extend its life up to three times. Insert your wand and stir and Voila!! Fresh mascara!

I was not expecting a miracle and a three times increase sounded like an excessive claim, but this is exactly what happened and I can’t overstate my satisfaction.

Probably I won’t walk the whole 9 yards and use the saline solution to extract every bit of juice left in my new bottle of mascara. For health reasons, it is recommended not to use the same makeup for many months in a row, so I won’t push it to the limit.

Mascara-last-longer

Even if this do-it-yourself remedy will double the lifespan of my mascara, it would be a discovery of the same magnitude as the wheel, as far as I’m concerned.

      You can get it at your local drugstores

    Does this hinder the “quality” of the mascara? Does the mascara break down quicker – flake off? While on the person, does the altered mascara last as long as the original? For examples – can one wear it all day, does it “run” easier if we cry? What about health hazards of introducing the saline into mascara – extra bacterias….?

      @Laura,
      Saline is safe for the eyes because its a sterile solution. However, you should get rid of your mascara 3 or 4 months of use.
      The mascara with added saline will work as the original one.

    Will try (soon!). I have used hair softener for years. Won’t triple the .ife, but helps for a few weeks. Thanks!
