Exfoliating your skin is important, and it should be done 1-2 times each week. Why is exfoliation so important? It helps to slough away those dead skin cells that clog pores and keep skin looking dull.
When you remove the dead skin cells, you’ll let the new, younger skin shine through. Exfoliating your skin also helps ensure that your skin absorbs the skin products you use even better, which improves your overall complexion.
When you exfoliate, make sure you’re using the fingertips instead of the palms of your hands. You don’t want to be too harsh on your skin since you could cause damage.
For this exfoliant, I used green tea, for its glowing promise:
Green Tea: Green tea is an excellent liquid to use when you make your own exfoliating recipe. Green tea has so many benefits to offer your skin. It contains plenty of antioxidants, which help to prevent aging.
Green tea also helps to repair scars, prevents blemishes and offers other important skincare benefits. Using green tea on the skin can actually reduce sun damage to the skin. It also may help treat other skin care problems, such as acne, rosacea, and psoriasis.
- 2 tbsp sugar (use brown sugar if you have sensitive skin)
- 1 tbsp brewed tea (1/3 cup + 1 bag)
- lemon juice (*optional)
- yogurt (*optional)
- honey (*optional )
① Brew 1 pure green tea bag in a cup filled 1/3 with water. Let sit until the water has cooled from steaming to lukewarm. Add 2 tbsp of raw sugar and mix to make a paste consistency.
② You could use a cotton pad to apply it to your skin if you’re proper like that, but I find it best to just gently rub the mixture with my hands in circular motions all over the face, avoiding the eyes and nose for about 3-5 minutes.
③ Also, when exfoliating with your hands, use your finger tips and fingers, not the palms.
④ Rinse with warm water and splash with cold water to close the pores. Moisturize if needed.
Other great ingredients you can add to your exfoliant include:
- lemon to help cleanse skin and the acids help to remove those dead skin cells – use the juice of a half wedge lemon
- honey to moisturize skin and high in antibacterial ingredients. – 1 tbsp
- yogurt to soothe skin – 1 tbsp
If you want to make your own exfoliant, you’ll want to start with raw sugar. Raw sugar is mild enough to use on your face, but you can use a sugar-based exfoliant on your entire body as well. It will leave skin glowing and super smooth when you are done.
