Do you have sensitive skin that makes it almost impossible to pick the right facial scrub? I’ve been there and I know that numerous commercial varieties have a very harsh effect on skin prone to irritation.
Due to this cosmetics purchasing failure, I came up with my own facial scrub recipe. The chemical-free composition is gentle on the skin and it produces mild exfoliation.
My scrub recipe is also simple and cheap. It involves just two basic products – egg yolk and baking soda.
Why Baking Soda: Baking soda is classified as a mechanical exfoliator. It has small particles that remove the dead skin cells without causing irritation.
Many women that have sensitive skin find sugar scrubs too rough. The smaller baking soda granules turn it into the perfect ingredient for alternative types of scrub. In addition, baking soda has anti-bacterial qualities that decrease the risk of redness and irritation even further.
Finally, baking soda has alkaline nature. Acne-causing bacteria need acidic medium to begin multiplying. The use of baking soda on the skin changes the pH, which prevents the bacteria from causing serious problems like acne.
Why Egg Yolk: When it comes to natural skincare, egg yolk is one of the most beneficial ingredients. Rich in essential nutrients and minerals, it nourishes the skin and slows down the aging process.
Egg yolks have adhesive properties, which is why they can be used for scrubs. As the yolk dries on the face, it “pulls” the dead skin cells. These will be removed when you wash your face, revealing a new, fresh layer of skin.
Yolk is an excellent source of protein, zinc and vitamins A, B2 and B3. Protein is the building block of all bodily tissues, including the skin. It repairs damaged skin and boosts its elasticity.
Vitamin A is essential for the healing of dry and flaky skin. Vitamin B2 offers protection against the action of free radicals. Vitamin B3 has anti-inflammatory properties and it also hydrates the skin.
Zinc is the final beneficial element that egg yolks are rich in. Zinc is often included in the composition of anti-acne remedies. It tightens and clarifies the skin, making it perfect for sensitive skin that is prone to acne.
You Will Need
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp of baking soda
- olive oil
- tea tree or lavender oil (optional)
- Wash the egg. Crack it and separate the yolk from the egg white.
- Leave the egg white for another mask or add it to baked goods. You can just throw it away finally.
- Mix egg yolk with soda and with few drops of olive oil or 1-2 drops of tea tree oil or lavender. These aromatic oils soothe the skin.
- Gently massage your face with circular movements of the fingers.
- Wait until the scrub dries. Wash it off with a washcloth. Pat the face and apply your favorite moisturizer on.
What do you feel?
These two basic ingredients work together to exfoliate skin gently and to decrease the risk of problems like acne and irritation. You will need just a couple of minutes to make this all-natural facial scrub and you will notice the results almost instantly.
