Some people are born with a beautiful and healthy skin, others have to fight an uphill battle just to keep it acne-free and the war seems to be never-ending.
Pimple redness is something that can transform a great looking person into one shy of leaving her home and you don’t need to be overly concerned about aesthetics to realize the magnitude of the problem.
In the most severe cases, the pimples are so red that the entire face seems to under fire and they also cause a feeling of discomfort.
Once again the causes are multiple, but in some cases, we are entirely responsible for red pimples as we squeeze them too early or pick them. It can be hard to resist the temptation of performing one of the aforementioned actions but the end result will almost always defeat the purpose.
Assuming you refrain from picking or squeezing the pimples, the cause for this problem could the manner in which you wash your face and the chemicals that some cosmetic products might contain. Heredity, food, dirt but also stress are elements that in conjunction or alone can lead to more or less severe cases of red pimples.
To reduce the redness of pimples, consider the following suggestions, which include everyday household products to tame an irritated face:
① Crushed Aspirin
What To Do :
For a topical remedy, crush aspirin with a small amount of water to create a thick paste to spread on red pimples. Let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse as usual.
You can read more about aspirin mask here.
② Egg Whites
What To Do :
Use a decent cleanser to wash your face before dabbing on egg whites with a cotton ball or Q-tip. Leave the remedy on your face for a couple of hours or for achieving the best results, overnight.
③ Ice Cubes
What To Do :
Use coldness to calm irritated skin and shrink the size of pores. Rub ice cubes wrapped in a washcloth or paper towel on red pimples several times a day, but make sure you don’t leave on for too long because it could cause frostbite and damaged skin cells.
④ Desitin Creamy with Aloe & Vitamin E
What To Do :
Reach into a diaper bag and use the same ointment that touches your baby’s bottom. Cover your face with an even, a light layer of Desitin before going to bed.
Leave on your face overnight and by morning – the redness should have reduced.
⑤ Apple Cider Vinegar
Not only will apple cider vinegar remove the redness of pimples, but also decreases the size of your blemish. Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar, apple cider vinegar or lemon juice and dab it on the pimple. Repeat two to three times a day. It may sting a bit at first, especially if a pimple is irritated.
⑥ Toothpaste
What To Do :
Dry out oily blemishes and reduce redness by dabbing a bit of toothpaste on a pimple. It is important not to use toothpaste with additives for whitening teeth or enamel care, but instead, concentrate on the most basic white toothpaste (no gel) to decrease the risk of burning the skin or making skin redder.
⑦ Advil/Ibufrofen
What To Do :
Tap into the anti-inflammatory powers of Advil (or similar) to rid your face of redness. Just break open or puncture a standard Advil or ibuprofen liquid gel capsule and gently rub the liquid into the affected area.
Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and the alcohol in the liquid helps open pores in your skin to deliver the Ibuprofen more quickly.
⑧ Lemon Juice
What To Do :
Soak a cotton ball in lemon juice and press against a pimple for five minutes to lessen swelling and redness.
The antiseptic properties of lemon juice can help to rid your skin of bacteria, which can help with acne, however, if you’ve got a sensitive skin or your skin is exposed to the sun while lemon juice is on the surface, redness and rash can occur. So, it’s better to do this routine during night time and don’t use this method if you have sensitive skin.
⑨ Visine Eye Drops
What To Do :
For a quick fix, Visine not only removes the redness from irritated eyes but can also help alleviate pimple redness. Just dab a Visine on the affected area and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing.
⑩ Do Not Scrub
What To Do :
Keeping skin clean is an important part of battling pimple redness, but do not scrub your face with a washcloth, or pimples will become irritated and cause blemishes to swell and increase in redness.
⑪ Make-Up
What To Do :
Cover up your red pimples with makeup. Interestingly, cosmetics with a green tint have a knack for offsetting the appearance of redness.
⑫ Chilled Face Wipes
What To Do :
To reduce the redness and puffiness of pimples, place face wipes in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before using.
⑬ Herbal Tea Bag
What To Do :
Place an herbal tea bag in warm water before rubbing your face. Don’t be alarmed when your face turns brown. Leave the tea on your face for three minutes, and then rinse off with cold water.
Pat dry with a clean towel. Red pimples should subside within hours.
