Healing Power of Onions for Colds – Can Absorb Bacteria, Viruses and Flu

Onions are one of those foods that you either love or hate. Many people routinely say “hold the onions” when ordering meals at restaurants while other people happily add a double load to their pizza, sandwiches, and casseroles.

This is the food that can make you cry on the happiest day of your life, but it’s also quite powerful regarding its absorbency.

If you’re a fan of home remedies and natural home care, you may have heard that you can keep an onion in the refrigerator to naturally absorb toxins.

Many people claim that you should never eat an onion after storing it in the fridge because you will end up eating those toxins. Many people also believe in setting sliced onion in the kitchen as an air cleaner or next to the bed of a sick person to absorb the sickness by morning.

It’s also believed that you can place freshly sliced onion on your feet to absorb toxins from your body. Since the pores on the feet are larger than pores at other points of the body, many believe that this is the perfect spot to pull toxins out of the blood.

How to Treat Your Feet with Onion

Slice thick pieces of a large onion for each of your feet. You can’t walk around with onion in your socks, so this treatment is designed for overnight use.

You can even do it during a long nap if you don’t want to do it all night. I generally wrap the sliced onions using a cling wrap, so the juices won’t absorb on my socks.

After covering the onions, you can wear socks and lay down. The onions will stay in place better if you use two tight-fitting socks (optional).

Wearing the onion on your feet overnight is adequate, but others recommend propping your feet up with two or three pillows as well.

This is believed to encourage the flow of blood from the feet to the heart, helping process more toxins from throughout the body while the onion is in place.

Another Trick in Using Onions for Clogged Nose:

I could swear on this nifty trick as I’ve used this countless time whenever my little tot or I feel sick (like cold, clogged nose, cough, flu, or fever).

I immediately peeled the white onion and slice it, placing them in a bowl or any container and position the dish next to our bedside. The following day, clogged nose is gone, or fever is down.

Of course, you can expect the pungent smell of onions, but it’s the odor that yields a powerful “healing power” so I don’t really mind the strong stench at all.

The Full Benefits of Onion

Whether you love or hate onion, there are some great reasons to add it to your food as well as your feet. It is loaded with phytochemicals known to improve the body’s use of vitamin C, indirectly boosting your immune system.

When you’re loading up on vitamin C to get rid of a cold or protect yourself from germs traveling around your social circle, it helps to load up on the onion as well.
