Have you noticed the first gray hairs in your perfectly styled locks? Though this is a natural part of aging, it can be quite distressing.

Getting rid of gray hair is simple, and every drugstore will have dozens of options for you to pick. The problem with these options is that they often contain harsh chemicals and additives that are anything but unhealthy.

So, what can you do about those annoying gray hairs without turning to chemical-filled dyes? The good news is that a couple of kitchen staples can help you restore the beautiful color of your hair.

Hair oil treatments for gray hair are natural, easy to use and quite effective.

Here are two of the best homemade hair oil for making your hair beautiful and getting rid of those gray strands in your locks.

① Grab a bunch of curry leaves, clean and allow it to dry in hot sun until it turns dark brown and crisp. Grind it into a fine powder.

② Mix 4 heaped teaspoons of this curry leaf powder with 200 ml of coconut or olive oil and bring to a boil in a very low heat.

③ After 2 minutes, switch off the stove and allow the oil to cool down.

④ Filter the oil and store it in an airtight container.

You can read my separate post here using the curry leaves.

Directions:

  1. Apply this curry leaf hair oil on your scalp and hair 1 or 2x a week.
  2. Gently massage the mixture in a circular motion using your fingertips, the massage will improve scalp circulation, thus making your hair stronger and reducing hair loss.
  3. Let it sit for about 30-45 minutes before washing your hair with regular mild shampoo and conditioner.

A hair oil made of curry leaves can be used just once or twice a week to maintain your beautiful hair color. The pigments found in curry leaves will darken gray hairs and eventually restore your natural color.

The oil relies on the power of dried curry leaves and coconut oil – two ingredients that restore color while strengthening and nourishing your hair.

Amla (or Indian Gooseberry) Gray Hair Treatment:
Amla has been used for the darkening of gray hair for ages. A number of natural hair dye products are also based on the pigments found in amla. You’ll need the fresh amla fruit in order to make a DIY gray hair treatment.

① Cut the fresh amla fruits into small pieces and grind/crush them using mortar and pestle to make a paste-like consistency (the amount of amla fruits really depends on how strong you wish to create for the oil, for me I just used 8-10 amla fruits and grind them). You can add some rose water to grind it.

② Add this paste mixture to your (200 ml) regular hair oil (like coconut or olive oil) and tightly close with a cloth or lid.

③ Let the amla ingredients soak in your oil for at least a week.

④ After a week, filter the hair oil and store it in a clean bottle.

Directions:

① Apply and gently massage this amla hair oil onto your scalp before going to bed (if it is mildly heated, the results would be much better).

② Wrap your hair in a shower cap and now you can go to sleep. Wash your hair the next morning using a mild/herbal shampoo and conditioner.

Use the Amla mask as an overnight treatment to get the best results. If you want to get results within a week, you’ll need to use the amla oil every other night. You’ll notice how the natural pigments work to gradually change the color of the gray hairs and restore their natural dark tone.

Tips: Apart from using these two natural products to darken your gray hairs, you can also incorporate curry leaves in your diet. This way, you’ll postpone the appearance of gray hair, and you’ll also deal with the loss of color that you’ve already experienced.

      @Yaeng,
Curry leaves and bay leaves are two different leaves. Normally you can buy curry leaves at any Indian stores.
