Dark circles under the eyes? Worried about the appearance of under-eye wrinkles? The cosmetic industry has started addressing these worries and you can now choose among a medley of under-eye masks.
Spas have also joined in, offering a range of specialized treatments for the delicate skin underneath the eyes. Do you need all of this? Just think about the plethora of skin cleaning, tightening and complexion-improving substances that nature has provided us with.
The Need for Special Treatment
Why have so many products been created to improve the condition of the skin underneath the eyes? Several reasons exist, justifying the creation of specialized product development.
- The skin underneath the eyes is exceptionally delicate and thin. The blood vessels there are very small and poor microcirculation could lead to puffiness and skin that looks dry and exhausted.
- On top of that, this fragile skin is subjected to a lot of exertion. You blink all the time, you squint your eyes and rub them whenever you feel tired. All of these activities and involuntary behaviors influence the skin in a bad way. These reasons contribute to the fact that the skin underneath the eyes is the first one to show signs of aging.
- Skin on other parts of the body benefits from pampering treatments and intense hydration therapies. The area underneath the eyes is often neglected.
- Getting enough rest and high-quality sleep is the first rule of keeping the skin underneath the eyes healthy, beautiful and free from dark circles.
The same applies to having a good diet and getting proper hydration on a daily basis. Still, we will all be in need of emergency skin rejuvenation every now and then due to a late night at the office or a wild party on a Friday night.
Do you want to make sure that this part of your face looks great, well-rested and youthful? You can try making masks at home to address the highly specific needs of the skin underneath the eyes.
Various natural products have the power to rejuvenate the fragile skin and to make it elastic once again. After much testing and comparing treatments literally side-by-side, I have zeroed down on these 3 under-eye mask recipes that work just as well as – if not better than – the store-bought versions.
1.) Destroy the Dark Circles Under-Eye Mask
Why it works: All foods that are rich in vitamin K will do wonders for the skin underneath the eyes. Vitamin K is incredibly potent regarding improving capillary health.
It will also decrease the pooling of blood in the area underneath the eyes, which causes the appearance of dark circles. Some of the best natural sources of vitamin K include all kinds of herbs, dark green leafy vegetables, broccoli, cayenne and chili pepper.
You’ll Need:
- 2 cups water
- 1 bunch of basil
- 1 bunch of parsley leaves
- 3 lettuce leaves (optional)
- 3 cabbage florets (optional)
Boil the water and add the remaining ingredients. Simmer for 20 minutes, then strain the liquid and pour it into a glass jar.
Apply this liquid (once it’s absolutely cool) with a cotton ball under the eyes and leave on for 10 minutes. Finally, rinse and gently pat dry. Repeat daily.
Storage: This mixture must be refrigerated; discard if it smells rancid.
2.) Banish the Crow’s Feet Under-Eye Mask
Why it works: Mashed soybeans are another great option for the creation of homemade under-eye masks. Soybeans are very rich in antioxidants, and they also have anti-inflammatory properties.
The application of soybean to the skin stimulates collagen production, which restores the elasticity of aging skin. Combined result: lesser fine lines and crow’s feet.
You’ll Need:
- 1/4 cup soybeans that have been soaked overnight in a cup of water
- 1 tablespoon whole milk
Method:
Pour the soybeans into a blender and process till they reach a paste-like consistency. Add the milk and blend for another minute. Apply under the eyes and leave for 15 minutes, then rinse off.
Storage: This mixture must be refrigerated; discard if it smells rancid.
3.) Pass on the Puffiness Under-Eye Mask
Why it works: Ladies suffering from eye puffiness should consider trying under-eye masks that contain witch hazel or celery.
Witch hazel is known for the astringent properties that it has. Celery contains some really powerful anti-inflammatory substances that will reduce the swelling almost immediately.
You’ll Need:
- 2 celery stalks or 2 tablespoons celery juice
- 1 green tea bag
- 1 cup witch hazel
- 1 tablespoon glycerin
Method: Puree the celery stalks in a food processor (or juicer) and strain the juice. Place the teabag in a glass beaker.
Heat witch hazel until hot and pour it on top of the teabag. Let the tea infuse for 2-3 minutes, then remove the teabag. Add celery juice and glycerin. Saturate a gauze pad and place over the eyes for 15 minutes.
Storage: Can be kept refrigerated for up to 10 days; discard if the mixture becomes cloudy.
Other Options:
You can also use a few natural oils to diminish the prominence of dark circles. Coconut and almond oils are two great options. Many ladies that have tried coconut oil for dark circles confirm that it delivers faster benefits than many expensive cosmetics.
Almond oil gives the skin in-depth hydration, and apart from reducing the dark circles, it can also be used to prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
The masks based on these ingredients require less than 10 minutes to make at home, and the results will often be instantaneous. Just identify the type of under-eye skin problem you are dealing with and choose the natural product that has the right qualities.

Hi, how often can you apply the soya bean mask?
hi Anna,
You can apply this mask everyday. Just create small batch that would last for 3-4 days. Fresh yield best results.
