If the weather left you with itchy, dull, dry skin, it’s time you treat it to a cup of coffee body scrub. You can make this scrub at home with a minimum of ingredients, some of which you’d throw out anyway.
It leaves your skin feeling and looking sumptuous and ready for sleeveless tops that you’re about to don in the warmer weather.
Natural ingredients are now prominently mentioned on beauty treatments everywhere, but people who create their own beauty products at home know you don’t have to go to the beauty section of a store for them, your pantry shelves have most of the ingredients you need for a healthy, natural beauty aid.
Recycling has become more popular, but people have been doing it for years, too. This recipe uses all natural ingredients, including some that would normally be sent to the landfill.
Why it works and why it’s naturally firming:
Coffee, the Skin’s Quicker Picker-Upper
People have used coffee for hundreds of years as a way of toning and firming skin, while also blasting off cellulite. In fact, if you check the ingredients on most toning lotions, you’ll find they contain coffee extracts.
Of course, they also have a boatload of other “not so natural” ingredients you often can’t pronounce, such as carrageenan that causes inflammation and increases the risk of cancer, phthalates linked to a lower immune functioning and some toxic food dyes.
These absorb through your skin, so they pose a real threat.
Coffee stimulates blood flow and perks up your metabolism, whether you drink it or apply it on the skin. It, like the toxic ingredients mentioned above, absorbs through the skin and helps remove the fat that’s liquefied.
That improves the appearance of the skin and reduces the puckered look of cellulite. Even though this homemade cellulite mask and exfoliator works, drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet and exercise are the cornerstones for a cellulite free body.
- 1/4 cup coffee grinds from coffee maker or french press
- 1/2 – 1 cup coconut oil
Creating the scrub isn’t hard, you simply mix approximately 1/2 or 1 cup of melted coconut oil.
Melt the coconut oil using a double broiler and pour over the coffee grinds, stir with a spoon and put aside to set.
The amount of oil doesn’t have to be precise, it’s just used to bind the grounds and soften the skin, so you’ll get a good exfoliation. You’re ready to use it once it’s mixed.
Or you can pour the mixture into the mold and place in the freezer for about 40 minutes to solidify.
I prefer using scrubs in a solid form to avoid a messy sink with coffee grounds flying all over the bathroom when I do this routine.
How to Use:
- Rub the mixture all over your body. It will soften and remove dead skin on rough spots, such as feet and elbows, exfoliate the skin on your face to give you a glowing complexion and stimulate circulation in areas that have cellulite to help firm them up a bit, such as trouble spots like thighs, abdomen and rear.
- Massage all areas for a few minutes, allowing both the coconut oil to soften the skin and the coffee grounds to remove dead cells.
- Wipe it off with a towel and then shower or bathe. If you bathe, you can leave the mixture on and allow the warm water to do its magic. People who are ready for the tan spraying booths will also find this prepares your skin beautifully for the process.
If you want to use this DIY scrub on your face, be very gentle when massaging using circular motion. You can do this routine once or twice a week.
Please keep in mind that the coconut oil in this scrub will be naturally oily and it may be slippery in the shower or bath to use. Use caution and stand on an old towel or paper towels if you don’t want to risk falling.
