If you’re dealing with cystic acne, you probably want to find a way to treat the problem so your skin looks clear and beautiful. The good news is that you can use DIY cystic acne treatments to treat your acne effectively. Skip the expensive traditional treatments and choose low-cost, effective DIY options.

Cystic Acne Information

First, it’s important to know a bit about cystic acne. Cystic acne happens to be a very severe form of acne. Like other types of acne, it forms as a result of hormones, excess oil and in some cases, may be a result of certain medications. People with cystic acne know that this type of acne is very different from other types of acne. It’s very prominent, red, inflamed and quite painful.

Traditional Treatments Cause More Problems

Many doctors prescribe medical treatments, such as Accutane, antibiotics or even the good ol’ birth control pill to help heal cystic acne. The problem with traditional treatment for cystic acne is that they rarely offer long term results.

Basically, these options dry out your skin and kill both your good and bad bacteria; or worse, manipulate your hormones. While it appears to help in the beginning, it can actually make things worse in the long run. The best way to describe how these common treatments work is that they are similar to a cold medicine. When you pop cold medication, it is merely masking the symptoms to provide temporary relief from a sore throat or raging cough. It isn’t actually healing you. This is the same with acne medications.

As a firm believer in the healing power of natural remedies, I believe that even cystic acne can be healed for the long run with a few quick and dirty DIY’s.

Natural, DIY Treatment Options

Some of the best, natural treatment options for cystic acne can be quickly made with some ingredients from the kitchen. However, while these remedies provide great results, you also need to eat a healthy diet if you want to see results. Your diet has a big impact on your skin. The following are some of the best DIY treatments for cystic acne that will offer you the results you want.

Treatment #1 – Cinnamon and Honey

To help reduce the inflammation and burning from your acne, throw together:

  • 2 tablespoons of raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
  • 1 egg whipped egg white

Cinnamon-1
Mix it all together and then apply to a freshly cleaned face. Allow this acne face mask to soak in for 5-10 minutes.

Why this works: RAW Honey is full of moisturizing properties and is also a natural antibacterial agent. It will gently battle bad acne bacteria, while the cinnamon helps reduce inflammation. Egg whites are full of protein that gives your skin back the nutrients it needs to improve cellular regeneration and tighten your pores.

Treatment #2 – Potato Juice

potato-1
Sometimes potatoes get a bad rap, but they really offer some excellent health benefits. In fact, potatoes can help you effectively treat cystic acne.

You’ll need a blender and some potato slices that have been freshly cut. Put the potato slices in the blender, blending until you have a thick puree. Apply the potato puree to the face like a mask. Leave on your face until the mask dries completely. Wash away the potato mask with some warm water. The potato juice helps to reduce swelling and redness, but it won’t dry out your skin when you use it.

Why this works: The juice from potatoes helps reduce redness and swelling without sucking the life out of your skin.

Treatment #3 – Baking Soda and Salt

Last, exfoliating your skin with a baking soda and salt exfoliator also will help to banish your cystic acne. Regular exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells, bacteria and dirt that can clog pores. It also helps to uncover healthy, new skin cells.

One of the best treatments for cystic acne is to regularly exfoliate. To heal and renew mix together:

  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  • enough water to make it a paste

Gently apply the paste to your face, rubbing lightly. Let the paste sit on skin for 15 minutes. Rinse away using lukewarm water, gently patting skin dry. To enjoy the best results, exfoliate using this recipe three times each week.

Why this works: Exfoliation helps your skin generate new, healthy cells while gently sloughing away the dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria that may be clogging your pores.

While all of these treatments offer great results, make sure that you also eat a healthy diet, avoiding unhealthy foods. If you eat healthy foods and use these natural, DIY treatments, you’ll begin to see results over time.

As a little prologue to these remedies, I want to stress how important it is to supplement these remedies with a healthy diet. What you put in your body can directly affect your skin.
