I love makeup but there’s one particular concern. Makeup products are not cheap. Therefore, I invested in good quality products and then I purchase a variety of crappy ones to offset every bucks I’ve expended. However at some point, I noticed that I’ve used up most of the good ones and now I’m basically stuck with some cosmetics that somehow I’ve forgotten they exists in the back of my drawer.

That being said, in my attempt to upcycle these island of misfit makeup (you can check my DIY eye primer here), I decide to accomplish a task: do-it-yourself highlighter. Highlighter is my absolute favorite piece of beauty products – I bring it with me in every single place. This is one of my favorite beauty secret weapon because it gives my face a really nice angular, instant-contoured, glam look and helps spotlight my best features like my eyes.

How to Apply Highlighter:

You need to apply the highlighter just above the cheekbone to create a highlight. So you can either use your clean finger or use a brush and stipple it on top of your cheekbones. After application, you can use your finger and pat it to move the product around and blend in. You can take your finger and just go up into the brow bone area as well. You can also use highlighter down the center of your nose, on the middle of your forehead, and on your chin. This will make your face glow and look slimmer.

You’ll Need:
oil free moisturizer or face lotion – ( I used a cetaphil lotion)
Shimmery Eye shadow – (champagne, pearl and nude shades work well)
or Pink blush – (optional)
Clean container
Stirrer

1Grab your empty, clean container and get your shimmery gold or yellow eye shadow, this will give you a light-reflecting shimmer in the right places. Put half a teaspoon on the container.

2This is optional. Go ahead and scoop a little bit of pink blush and add it to your shimmery gold eyeshadow. Make sure just to put a dash of pink as you dont want the pink color to overpower the shimmer eyeshadow.

3 Now squeeze 3-4 pumps of body lotion to your shimmery eye shadow or you can add more lotion to get the desired consistency.

4Using a stirrer, mix all the ingredients until smooth (if you need an extra long-lasting formula, add a tiny bit of your favorite primer).
