I used to have some misconceptions about do-it-yourself shaving lotions, because my initial experiments failed to deliver results that would make the effort worthwhile. This time I think I have nailed it and although I am not a big fan of doing the dishes, I think that overall, the benefits outweigh the downsides. The regular shaving lotion that can be found in stores, gets the job decently well, but it seems like the prices are on an upwards trend that is not sustainable.
The idea of making my own shaving lotion by using those ingredients I have at home, has always appealed to me and now the financial troubles could be the incentive I need. By using nothing more than conditioner, shampoo, lotion and baby oil, it is possible to come up with a shaving lotion that delivers results on par with its commercial counterpart. In fact it is even possible to enjoy a closer shave and add your favorite scent, by using specially ingredients such as coconut oil.
If I were to trust commercial products, I would need to conduct a lot of research because my sensitive skin doesn’t react well to many shaving lotions. The benefit of preparing the lotion your self with constituents that you know and trust, is that the risk of allergies is rendered irrelevant. Basic household ingredients are also much cheaper and once you get the hang of it, preparing the shaving lotion is nothing more than a walk in the park.
