Making the Best Perfumed Body Powder at Home

Having a shower is one of the most enjoyable rituals for me. Pampering myself continues even after I have exited the bathroom. You guessed it, I am a girly girl and I love to make my skin feel silky smooth and soft.

Body powder is one of my favorite beauty products and I get even more enthusiastic about it during the hot summer days. Who wants to feel sweaty and hot? I certainly try to do everything in my power to avoid this sensation.

Going back to body powder, it makes me feel “fresh” throughout the day and this is why I use it all over my body. I even put some in my shoes because it makes my feet soft and it keeps them dry.

There is one more reason for giving the perfumed powder a try – its amazing scent. This is the one thing you should be putting on after a shower if you want to have that delicious body scent throughout the day. I’ve tried all kinds of body fragrances, deodorants, antiperspirants, and cologne. They simply lack the longevity of body powder.

All of this sounds great, yet there is a small “but.” Perfumed body powder can be expensive. And as already mentioned, I use a lot of it! My beauty budget will have to be skyrocketed for my freshness and amazing body scent to be maintained. This is why I started researching possibilities for making my own perfumed body powder. Guess what, the process is quite simple and it can be really inexpensive.

You’ll need:

  • a cotton ball
  • a glass jar with a lid
  • your favorite perfume
  • body powder (“scented” is fine because the perfume will be stronger )
OR you can use Pure cornstarch / arrowroot powder – Cornstarch makes a great, economical body powder, and eliminates the chemicals found in many commercial powders
  • pretty jar/container

Directions:
STeP 1: Spray some perfume on the cotton ball. Make sure that it is somewhat drenched before putting it inside the jar (I used 30-40 sprays). That sounds like a lot, but I promise, this won’t even make a dent in your perfume supply.

3-1

STeP 2: Open the powder box, place the cotton ball in the bottom of the jar and dump 1 or 2 cups body powder in after it. There should be a little bit of room left, allowing you to shake the jar. Put the lid on and start shaking the jar. The more vigorous you are, the better!

STeP 3: Put the lid on tight and shake it…really shake it.

4-1
STeP 4: The powder should stay in the jar for a period of 10 up to 14 days. Give it a good shake every single day (this is the hardest part, to let it “cure”) to make sure that all of the powder gets properly scented. This is it! Open the jar and enjoy the fruits of your labor. You should have a perfumed body powder that smells deliciously luxurious and sophisticated.

Then put it in your pretty glass jar and use it…you’ll love it! And you’ll smell like heaven too! I don’t even put on perfume anymore, I just have a subtle yummy smell about me…just ask my hubby!

For applying this, What can we use? A sponge? Or with cotton?

      @Mehr Razeen,
      Better use the sponge.
