Did you ever take the time to think about what ingredients are used to create most of the beauty products that you purchase and use on a daily basis? I used to do it all the time, but after a while I turned a blind eye to most of my findings, just because I liked the idea of having everything served on a silver platter. Everything changed one day when I’ve stumbled upon some websites depicting do-it-yourself beauty products and tried one of the easiest recipes myself that work.
Decent eyeshadow will cost me $20 a pop which just fade away during the day and that being the case, I need to go and purchase my favorite eyeshadow primer which is the Urban Decay Primer Potion for an extra $20, that’s one little more that I need to spend.
Now I wouldn’t purchase a commercial product as long as there is a homemade alternative to it, and this includes the eyeshadow primer. Eyeshadow primer is a base applied on eyelids before eyeshadow to improve coverage and staying power. I won’t tell you that the products that you can buy in a store are all rubbish or that the homemade ones outshine them in every imaginable way, because that would be a lie.
What I say and strongly believe is that with the right ingredients and recipe, you can make an eyeshadow primer that is every bit as good as the best stuff you can find in online and brick-and-mortar shops.
1/2 Teaspoon All Natural Chapstick – (the wax found in Chapstick is really important for the consistency and staying power)
1 Teaspoon Cornstarch
1 1/2 Teaspoon Liquid Foundation (use anything available)
travel size container
makeup spatula or Q-tip for mixing
Put the 3 main ingredients in a clean container or any contact lens case and blend thoroughly but make sure to run the Chapstick under warm water for a minute before you add it so it blends effortlessly.
As long as you can acquire small quantities of natural Chapstick, cornstarch and you have pretty much any type of liquid foundation on hand, you can create your own eyeshadow primer. A few teaspoons are sufficient and there is nothing preventing you from creating a larger quantity, to be used for a longer period of time. What is important is remembering to mix vigorously, to achieve the perfect blend.
