Wouldn’t that manicure look even more fabulous if your hands were silky smooth? Our hands are one of our most widely used body parts, meaning that they take the brunt of the work. When exposed to the elements and physical labor, they can become dry, cracked, peeled, rough, and just plain worn.
Just taking a look at your hands can tell a lot about you, your health, and your lifestyle – even our age. That is why it’s so important to take good care of your hands. Try these homemade beauty masks for your hands to give them the pampering that they need.
1Cornmeal Hand Mask
Many of us have loads of laundry to do weekly, exposing our hands to toxic detergents. If this sounds like you, there is a way to revive your hands. Cornmeal is great gentle exfoliating ingredient I could use in my beauty recipes. The yellow looking gritty mix removed dead skin from my body, face, hands and feet while brightening up the skin underneath of the dead layer.
What To Do: In a mixing bowl, put 1 cup warm (boiled) water, ½ cup glycerin, and ½ cup cornmeal. Apply the mixture to your skin and allow it to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing.
2Potato Hand Mask
Did you know that potatoes can not only taste good, but also be beneficial to your hands? Potato is packed with vitamins and minerals, essential fatty acids and an assortment of phytochemicals, like carotenoids and polyphenols. Not only will your skin be nourished and moisturized, but potatoes also work as an anti-aging treatment, skin lightener and brightener, and an anti-inflammatory to quickly revitalize stressed-out skin.
What To Do: To create your own potato hand mask, boil a pot of water and throw in 2 to 3 potatoes. Mash them in a bowl when softened and add milk until you have formed a soft paste. Allow the mixture to cool until warm, and then apply to the hands. Once the potatoes have gone cold, wash your hands and apply your favorite hand moisturizer.
3Oatmeal Hand Mask
Oatmeal has a way of soothing tired, aching hands to bring back their younger, and more youthful appearance. The gritty texture of oatmeal makes it an excellent exfoliating agent, which removes dead skin cells when rubbed over the skin.
What To Do: To make your own oatmeal hand mask, combine 5 tablespoons oatmeal, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoons olive oil, and 1 tablespoon milk in a mixing bowl. Stir until you’ve created a soft paste and then coat your hands. Put on a pair of gloves to keep the paste warm and leave on for 30-60 minutes. Rinse when finished.
