I’m happy to say that I’ve been blessed with a beautiful backyard, and since I’m not afraid of getting my hands dirty, I take care of the plants myself.
This oasis of serenity is invaluable for me, and I find it both relaxing and exciting to expand my collection of flowers with new editions every week.
If there is one downside to gardening, then this has to be the fact that whenever I come back inside, my hands are as dirty and dull as they get.
Soap and water work wonders in most cases, but those who share my passion for gardening are probably well aware of the difficulty of properly cleaning your hands after such a session.
My sensitive skin is not responding well to cleaning products that are rich in chemicals, and I’d rather stay away from those whose names I can’t even spell.
I’ve heard about homemade hand/body scrub solutions, but until I took a special interest in my backyard and its flurry of plants I wasn’t too keen on buying such a product.
While this didn’t change, the difference resides in the fact that after conducting some research on this matter, I’ve stumbled upon a solution of making your own hands/body scrub.
I firmly believe that it is as good as any of those similar products that one can purchase in a store, without hurting my skin as a side effect. It takes a little time in the making and by following a few steps you can be successful on the first try.
There are 2 Options in Creating this Body Scrub
*** Option 1 ***
You’ll Need:
- 4 tbsp Granulated Sugar
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 drop essential oil of your choice -(optional)
Directions:
① Simply mix all the above ingredients and you are ready to go.
② Apply the mixture and work it in a gentle circular motion all over your hands or you can take it up a little bit into your arm to remove impurities and dead skin.
③ Rinse thoroughly and be amazed how your skin/hands look much younger and feel softer. Apply moisturizer as usual to protect that new skin.
*** Option 2 ***
You’ll Need:
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- 1 tbsp lime juice or lemon juice
Directions:
① Place 1 cup brown sugar in a container. Add the honey and lemon. Mix all the ingredients.
② Put 1 tbsp on your palm and gently work on your skin in a gentle circular motion.
③ Rinse with water and don’t forget to apply your favorite moisturizer.
This wonder scrub doesn’t stop here, as you can prepare a bigger batch (remember to make 2:1 ratio) and store it in a container.
Leave it in your bathroom and use it as a body scrub as well. I like adding essential oils particularly lavender oil to this sugar scrub because of its calming effects aside from its antiseptic and anti-fungal properties.
can i apply daily………….
@Neeraja,
If it is for hands’ use, applying daily is fine. But for body scrubs, use it 2x a week.
Skin still feel oily after washing thoroughly. Can’t we use soap to remove the oil?
@Lilian,
That’s the best part of this scrub, it makes your skin soft. You may feel a little oily but after couple of seconds, the oil will be absorbed by your skin and nothing left but soft and moisturized skin.
Can I use it on my face and whole body?
@Vaishu,
This is for hands and body only. You need to use different face scrub for your face
what is the your best recommendations of optional oil
@Dilu,
Try Olive oil
Can I use lemongrass oil?
What does that 2:1 ratio means in making of the bigger batch
@Aliza,
2:1 ratio means if you’ll use 1 cup of sugar, you need to add 1/2 cup of olive oil.
If no essential oil iz dere….can it b used with just sugar & olive oil combination?
How long we have to keep this mask ok dead skin??
@Akrati,
You can gently scrub this mixture on your skin for 5 to 10 minutes.
The normal white suger available in our kitchen should be crushed to make a granulated suger , Right??
Please tell some receipe for pink & soft lips as well
& my Dr. Refused me to use hair oils becoz I have female pattern baldness & oily skin as well , so it is ok not doing any oil hair massage .
@Swati,
Yes, your regular sugar is granulated unless it says “powdered sugar”.
Can I use baby oil instead of olive oil?
@Dona mae,
Baby oil is made of mineral oil. Mineral oil is something completely foreign to the human body. It is a synthetic oil which is a byproduct of the distillation of gasoline from crude oil. Why do we slather this stuff all over our children? Well, mostly because its cheap and abundant so manufacturers sell it to us and tell us its good for our skin.
I guess, you should use coconut oil if no olive oil is available, it’s good for the skin.
What a fab and super simple idea, I love using scrubs but they’re really expensive, will definitely give this a try. Never thought about using sugar either!
