A good nighttime skincare routine is essential for beautiful skin. In fact, your nighttime skincare routine has a significant impact on the way your skin will look the next day.

At the end of a long, busy day, it’s easy to simply fall into bed instead of removing makeup and caring for skin. However, if you were aware of how important a good nighttime skincare routine was for skin, you’d take a few minutes each night to take care of your skin.

skincare-treatment-1

For more beautiful skin, follow these important tips for a better nighttime skincare routine.

Tip #1 – Start by Cleansing Skin

Start your nighttime skincare routine by cleansing skin. Not only do you want to remove makeup, but dirt and toxins from the environment that may have built up on skin throughout the day.

Cleansing oils, balms, and other cleansers offer great results. For those with oily skin, cleansers with salicylic acid or glycolic acid offer great results.

Glycolic acid helps to treat and prevent blackheads while salicylic acid helps to remove makeup remnants and dirt that is deep within pores.

Individuals with dry or normal skin can use soap free and cream-based cleansers. This helps to remove dirt and makeup without stripping away your skin’s moisture.

Apply a bit of the cleanser and remove with a soft cloth or tissue. After cleansing skin, close your pores by rinsing with some cold water. With a clean towel, pat skin dry gently.

Tip #2 – Achieve Proper Skin pH with a Good Toner

During the day, toxins in the air and the products you use on your face may disrupt your skin’s pH. Toner helps to restore your skin to its natural pH.

For the best results, avoid toners with alcohol and pick a toner that is designed for your skin type. To tone skin, add a bit of toner to a cotton ball and gently apply to skin. Just avoid applying near the sensitive eye area. Leave toner on skin – do not rinse it away!

Tip #3 – Use a Serum to Repair Skin

Skin needs to repair itself at night and you can help with skin repair by applying a serum to skin. Serums are very lightweight, and they have antioxidants and other substances designed to help repair skin.

The skin will absorb serums instantly, so simply dab on the serum and don’t worry about trying to rub the product into the skin.

Tip #4 – Apply Skin Oils that Work for Your Skin Type

Now, it’s time to apply skin oils that work well with your skin type. Facial oils are becoming more popular because they offer so many benefits to the skin.

Even if you have oily skin, facial oils still prove helpful. Stripping away all the skin’s oils will only make skin produce even more oil.

Choose an oil that is designed for your skin type and then massages it into your face at night. Gently massage the oils upwards as you apply.

Tip #5 – Decide if Your Skin Needs More Moisture

After applying the skin oils, decide if your skin needs more moisture. If you have oily skin, you may not need another moisturizer after applying the oils and serum to skin.

However, those with dry skin may still need a good moisturizer at this point. If you do moisturize skin, avoid using products at night that contain SPF, since it may keep other skincare products from doing their job.

Tip #6 – Exfoliate Skin Regularly

The skin should be exfoliated regularly, but this doesn’t need to be done daily. Plan to exfoliate skin a couple of times each week. On the days you exfoliate, simply ditch your normal cleanser for the night and use an exfoliating cleanser instead.

Exfoliating helps to unclog your pores and removes those dead skin cells. This helps prevent blemishes and revealing new, beautiful skin. Before applying, apply warm water to the skin to help open your pores so dirt and oils can easily be removed.

Tip #7 – Apply a Face Mask Weekly

Apply a face mask weekly, choosing a mask that works for your skin type or a mask designed for the special needs of your skin.

A mask should be applied after cleansing, and most should only be left on sin for 15-20 minutes. Make sure you carefully rinse the mask away.

Tip #8 – Choose a Pillowcase That’s Gentle on Skin

Last, you need to choose a pillowcase that’s gently on skin. During your sleep, you may move around and end up stretching and tugging on skin. A silk pillow case is easier on skin.

Staying on your back while sleeping can help to prevent creases, fine lines and wrinkles from appearing.

Of course, while it’s important to follow this nighttime skincare routine, you also need to remember to get plenty of good sleep.

Sleep is essential for beautiful skin since it gives the body time to repair skin.

      @Bhagyashri,
Using natural ingredients for lightening skin takes time. It may takes 2 or 3 months time to see improvements depending on your skin condition. However, consistency and patience are the key in order to see results.

    Hi Calleigh,

Don’t you think the face wash, toner, serum and creams are too much products on the skin?
I never understood this concept of putting layers of products…

Is the face wash and night cream not sufficient?

    Thanks for your kind answer,

    Chloe
