Onions – they’re full of amazing magic. From delicious dishes to amazing skin, onions really have it all. Sure, they might not leave your breath smelling great, but there are plenty of other reasons to love onions. Check out eight of the magic powers of onions – you’ll definitely want to head out to grab more onions for your kitchen.

Onions-reasons-to-love-1

1. Healthy, Gorgeous Skin

Unfortunately, onions often make you cry when you cut them. However, their amazing skin benefits won’t leave you crying. Onions have antimicrobial properties, which help give you healthy, gorgeous skin. In fact, those antimicrobial properties work well for eliminating breakouts, whether you’re a teen or someone dealing with adult or hormonal acne.

How to:

Simply mix a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of onion juice together, pat it on your face and let it soak in for about 20 minutes. Rinse away and you’ll nix those pimples without a problem.

2. They Keep Your Ticker Healthy

One of the magical powers onions have is their ability to keep your ticker healthy. The sulfurous compounds in onions, which happen to give them that pungent odor, actually offer some significant health benefits. In fact, the flavonoids in onions may actually reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease and other heart disorders. Onions also help keep blood clots at bay. However, don’t cook them if you want to enjoy the best results – consume them raw.

3. Kiss Rust Goodbye

Onions also let you kiss rust goodbye. Whether you are dealing with rusty knives or other rusty items, onions will save the day. Use onion juice to eliminate rust. The acid found in onions will help eliminate a rusty coating.

Rub items with onion juice, polish items with some crushed items or simply stab knives into fresh onions to eliminate rust. You’ll be amazed at the difference you’ll see in minutes.

4. Improve Bone Density

Some research shows that onions may improve bone density as well, which is particularly important for women who have a high risk of osteoporosis as they get older. Sure, make sure you get plenty of dairy for calcium, but add some onions to your diet as well to keep bone loss at bay.

5. Eliminate Inflammation from Bites and Stings

Summer brings warm weather and days at the pool. However, it also brings bug bites and stings. Onions will come to your rescue again. Instead of dealing with itchy, inflamed bites or stings, use some onion to eliminate the problem. Take raw onion and rub it over your bites and stings. The onion has anti-inflammatory properties, which mean they’ll help eliminate the swelling, itching and burning that come with those stings and bites. Who knew that onions would offer such sweet relief?

6. Potty Train your Canines

Yes, you can even use onions for puppy potty training. Your adorable puppy may do some rather un-adorable things on your carpet. Accidents happen, but help eliminate those accidents by using some onion slices on the area where the “accident” occurred. Since dogs don’t like the pungent odor of onions, your puppy won’t head back to that area to repeat the “crime.”

7. Serious Multitasking Powers

You may be surprised to find that onions have serious multitasking powers. Sure, you can chop up those onions and add them to your favorite dishes. However, don’t toss out the onion skins. Those skins can be used in stocks or broths, adding tons of flavor. Simply strain your stock or broth before you serve. Peels and root ends also can be added to your compost bin.

8. Yummy Gourmet Dishes

Of course, you can’t overlook the yummy, gourmet dishes you can create with the magical, delicious flavor of onions. From salads to soups, onions are a star ingredient that can take many dishes to the next level. Enjoy the scrumptious flavor while enjoying all the health benefits onions offer.
