Do you use gram flour often? If not, you should get in the habit of adding this wonderful stuff to your homemade cosmetics.

Gram flour, also known as chickpea flour, garbanzo flour, besan, or beshon, is an excellent addition to scrubs and masks because it will leave your skin clean and radiant.

facial-mask-1

Gram flour can be used to lighten scars and reduce the prominence of dark spots. You can also use this natural product to get rid of those dark circles underneath your eyes. The result will be brighter and glowing complexion.

I’ve tried gram flour in a vast range of recipes and here’s my collection of masks and DIY scrubs that do miracles for my skin.

How to Use Gram Flour (Besan) to Lighten Skin/ Whiten Skin

① Face Mask for Acne Scars
Do you have noticeable acne scars? The gram flour and turmeric combination is the perfect possibility for you. The two ingredients will brighten your skin almost instantaneously and they will make the scars less prominent.

How to:
Making this mask is incredibly easy. You need two tablespoons of gram flour and ¼ tablespoon of turmeric.

Put two tablespoons of fresh milk in a small bowl and add the other ingredients. You should get a homogeneous paste.

Apply to the face and neck, keep the mask on for 20 to 30 minutes and wash your skin.

If turmeric stained your skin, just apply olive oil on your skin/face and rub it off with a damp wash cloth or paper towel. Repeat the process if needed.

② DIY Facial/Body Scrub
This potent scrub is excellent for lightening the skin and getting rid of dark spots.

How to:
You’ll need a few almonds (4-6 pieces). Soak those in water overnight. Peel the skins of the almonds off and grind them in the food processor or you can crush them using a mortar and pestle.

Add one and 1.5 tsp teaspoons of gram flour, one teaspoon of milk and a few drops of lemon juice.

The paste should be applied to your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash the scrub off, and you’ll notice its brightening effect almost immediately.

③ Face Mask for Dry Skin
Excessively dry and flaky skin will benefit from a gram flour and milk cream mask.

It will nourish and hydrate the skin, leaving it smoother and much more radiant. The same mask can be used to moisturize your hands during the cold winter days.

How to:
You’ll need one tablespoon of gram flour, one teaspoon of milk cream (or olive oil), half a teaspoon of honey and a few drops of lemon juice.

You may also add olive oil to the mask since it will boost the hydrating effect.

Mix the ingredients and apply the mask to your face. Let it dry on the skin before washing off.

④ Gram Flour and Lemon Juice for Dark Spots
Lemon juice contains vitamin C, which is a powerful skin lightening ingredient. The combination between lemon juice and gram flour is an excellent possibility for getting rid of dark spots, circles underneath your eyes, neck, underarms, knees, elbows and groin as well as other imperfections.

How to:
You’ll need a few spoons of gram flour and freshly squeezed lemon juice (just adjust the amount to make a paste-like consistency).

Mix until you get a relatively thick paste and apply to the part of your face (or body) that you want to have lightened.

Keep the mask on for about 15-20 minutes and wash it off with tepid water. The longer the mask stays on, the more pronounced the effect is going to be.

⑤ Gram Flour Facial Wash
You can use gram flour as a soap-free facial wash.

How to:
A soap-free facial wash can be made by mixing a teaspoon of gram flour with a teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 tsp sandalwood powder and 1 or 2 tsp of milk cream.

⑥ Oily Skin Mask
Gram flour is great for oily skin, as well. It can purify and tighten the pores, especially when combined with egg whites.

How to:
The mask consists of one egg white and two tablespoons of gram flour. Whisk the egg white before adding 2 tsp of gram flour.

Stir well and apply the mask to your face avoiding the eye area. Let it act for 15 minutes and wash it off with lukewarm water.

⑦ Extremely Oily Skin Mask
If you find it impossible to regulate sebum production through the use of cosmetics, you may want to try a gram flour and rose water combination.

These two ingredients regulate the skin’s pH, which is essential for normalizing sebum production.

How to:
You’ll need two tsp of gram (besan) flour, two tsp honey, one teaspoon of rosewater and one teaspoon of lemon juice.

Stir well together and apply to your face for up to 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off with tepid water.

⑧ Acne Treatment
You wake up to find a couple of dreadful pimples on your face. Don’t panic, gram flour will come to the rescue.

How To
Mix two tablespoons of curd/yogurt (or you can use cucumber instead) and one tablespoon of gram flour.

Clean your face before applying the mask to the affected area. Keep it on your face for 15 minutes and repeat the procedure each day, until the pimples disappear.

Gram (besan) flour can be purchased at your local Indian grocery stores or Asian markets. However, you can create your own by drying out chickpeas or garbanzos and throw them in a blender to ground them finely.

Thanks, all are effective remedies, just want to add that while using turmeric for any mask, dry roast it slightly, it will turn little darker yellow, you can store it. This roasted turmeric will not leave any stain on skin and will easily be removed after washing.
