I often turn to one of these simple yet effective home remedies for dry, itchy skin for instant relief.

① Baking Soda

Baking soda tops the list for one of the most effective home remedies for dry, itchy skin. For generalized dryness and itching, add one cup of baking soda to a tub of warm water and soak in the bath for 15-30 minutes.

After the shower, gently pat your skin dry with a towel or allow yourself to air-dry. To treat a particular area of dry, itchy skin, you can make a paste of one part water to three parts baking soda, apply to the affected area, and rinse off after a couple of minutes.

② Oats

Aside from being simply delicious, oats are a great form of treatment for dry, itchy skin. Naturally, oats contain a rich source of vitamin E, anti-oxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds that not only soothes dryness and irritation, but also promotes healthy skin.

For immediate relief, a cup of powdered oats can be added to a bath of warm water, and you can soak in the mixture for 15-30 minutes.

Alternatively, a paste of oats and water can be applied to the irritated skin and rinsed off after a couple of minutes with cold or lukewarm water.

③ . Aloe Vera

The ever glorious aloe vera plant is full of many health benefits. Nevertheless, when it comes to the skin, aloe vera consist of several antiseptic and antifungal properties that works to soothe, hydrate, nourish and promote the regeneration of new and healthy skin tissue.

To use for treatment of dry, itchy skin, cut open a fresh aloe vera leaf and squeeze out the gel. Next, apply the gel to affected area, leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and rinse off with lukewarm water. May repeat twice daily.

④ Coconut Oil

Beyond the kitchen, coconut oil is another great product that is readily used to treat dry, irritated skin. With a good amount of fatty acids, coconut oil helps to restore moisture back to the skin.

When using coconut oil to treat dry, itchy skin, the oil should be applied after a bath or shower when the skin is warm and supple. This helps to ensure that the skin will adequately absorb the oil.

⑤ Milk

Like aloe vera, milk has a rich supply of anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that provide relief from dry, itchy skin. Additionally, the lactic acid in milk exfoliates dead skin cells and increases the skin’s ability to retain moisture.

For maximum relief, soak a washcloth in cold milk and place the cloth on dry skin for 5-7 minutes. Then, gently wash off the milk with another cloth soaked in lukewarm water. Repeat treatment every other day.

⑥ Honey

Honey is one of the best natural moisturizers to use for treatment of dry, itchy skin. Composed of a rich amount of antioxidants, antimicrobial, and humectant properties as well as essential vitamins and minerals, honey excels at sealing in moisture in the skin.

To combat the irritability of dry, itchy skin, rub honey all over your body and leave it on for 5-10 minutes before taking a shower/bath. Alternatively, equal amounts of unprocessed honey, melted beeswax, and olive oil can be mixed and applied all over the body.

Allow mixture to stay on for 10 minutes and then shower to rinse off. Both forms of treatment can be done daily or every other day.

⑦ Avocado

Like many natural remedies for dry, itchy skin, avocados are full of healthy nutrients and minerals like fatty acids, vitamin A and antioxidants that helps to restore moisture back to dry and irritable skin.

For treatment purposes, mash the pulp of an avocado into a smooth paste and rub it all over dry skin. Let the paste stay on the skin for 10-15 minutes and rinse it off with cold water. Repeat the process once daily.

As someone who has battled dry and itchy skin for years, seeking out natural ways to treat this pesky problem is always a priority.

The best part of it all is that most natural remedies are products or ingredients that you may already have at home! On that note, what are some of your go-to home remedies for dry, itchy skin?
