5 Effective Home Remedies for Hair Growth and Hair Loss

Natural remedies are a wonderful option because they are so simple. You don’t have to worry about measuring out the exact dose or accidentally overmedicating yourself. You can use these remedies whenever you need then, and many natural remedies have been used safety for centuries.

Are you looking for some great ways to grow your hair? If so, here’s a look at some effective home remedies you can use for hair growth.

① Remedy #1 – Potato Juice
Potato juice includes important vitamins, such as vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin B. When you don’t get these vitamins in your diet, hair can become brittle and dry. Using potato juice on hair can actually eliminate the thinning that occurs due to alopecia. Adding honey and egg yolk to the potato juice ensures that your hair gets plenty of moisture.

What to Do:
Grate 3-4 potatoes and squeeze out the juice from it. Massage your scalp with this juice and let it sit for at least 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with water and shampoo as usual.

Potato-1
Instead of using the potato juice alone, you can try this hair mask particularly if you have dry, dull hair.

You’ll Need:

  • 3 Potatoes
  • 1 Egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp raw Honey

What to Do:

  • Grate and squeeze out the juice from potatoes and add honey and egg yolk. Mix well
  • Gently massage the mixture on your scalp and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Rinse it off with your regular shampoo and conditioner if needed.

② Remedy #2 – Onion Juice
Sure, it doesn’t smell the greatest, but it can definitely help improve hair growth. It works because of the high sulfur content, which improves collagen production. Collagen aids in hair regrowth. You can use red onions to make this easy home remedy.

You can read my separate post about onions here.

onion-juice-1
What to Do:

  • Grate 2-3 onions and squeeze out to extract the juice.
  • Massage the onion juice into your scalp and let it sit for 30-45 minutes (depends on your time).
  • After that, rinse it off with water and use a mild shampoo to get rid of the smell.

Alternative method

If you have zero tolerance for tears and irritation while grating the onions, you can use this trick:

  • Boil a 1 liter of water and add the onions (3-4 chopped onions)
  • Let it boil for another 5-10 minutes. Turn off the flame and let the mixture cool down
  • Once the mixture has cooled down, you can strain the water and use it to wash your hair after using shampoo.
  • If you can stand the smell, do not rinse hair with other water that day. You can shampoo your hair the next day and use clean water to wash it off.
  • If you can’t stand the smell, at least do not wash off with clean water for an hour. After an hour, you can rinse your hair with clean water and use a mild shampoo
  • Onion not only helps in re-growth of hair but also lends your hair with a fabulous sheen.

③ Remedy #3 – Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
Using apple cider vinegar on your hair offers many great benefits. It helps to cleanse your scalp and improves the scalp’s pH balance, improving growth. The apple cider vinegar also helps to stimulate your hair follicles, speeding up hair growth.

acv-1
What to Do:
Mix ACV and water and use it as a final rinse for your hair each time you shampoo your hair. If you have zero tolerance with the smell, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (such as lavender oil) to your mixture of water and vinegar.

How To Use ACV for Various Types of Hair

  • Wave, Curly, Thick or Long Hair — 1/2 cup of ACV mixed with 1 quart of warm water
  • Straight, Fine, Thin or Short Hair — 1 tablespoon of ACV mixed with 1 cup of warm water
  • Chemically straighten or treated hair — 1/2 cup of ACV mixed with 2 cups of warm water
  • Naturally Kinky or Thick Hair — 1 cup of ACV with 3 cups of water

How Often Can I Use The ACV Hair Rinse Treatment?

  • Wave, Curly, Thick or Long Hair — Use once every 2 weeks
  • Straight, Fine, Thin or Short Hair — Use once a week
  • Chemically straighten or treated hair — Use once a month
  • Naturally Kinky or Thick Hair — Use once every 6 — 8 weeks

④ Remedy #4 – Fenugreek
This is an ancient remedy that has been used to improve hair growth for centuries. It’s a common home remedy across the world, and using it on your hair can offer you some excellent results.

fenugreek-1

You can read my separate post here about re-growing hair with fenugreek.

Fenugreek hair rinse for hair Growth

You’ll Need:

  • 2-3 tbsp Fenugreek seeds
  • A large pan filled with water

What to Do:

  • Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight (or 24 hours) and strain.
  • Use this water to rinse your hair after shampoo.
  • After rinsing using the fenugreek water, squeeze the water out from your hair and let it sit for at least 2-3 hours. Use a shower cap or a plastic bag to wrap your hair.
  • After 2-3 hours, you can rinse your hair with the regular water
  • Do this routine every other day (or you can do this hair rinse daily) for about 4 weeks and you’ll notice a big difference on your hair volume.

Fenugreek hair mask for hair Growth

You’ll Need:

  • Fenugreek seeds paste- 1 tsp
  • Coconut milk – ¼ cup or more if you have longer hair

What to Do:

  • Soak 2-3 tbsp fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Drain the water (don’t discard the water as you can use it for hair rinse)
  • Place the soaked fenugreek seeds in a blender and add coconut milk to make a paste (you can use coconut oil)
  • Apply the mixture onto your scalp and hair ends.
  • Let it sit for 30 minutes or longer.
  • Wash it off with your favorite shampoo. No conditioner needed.

⑤ Remedy #5 – Eggs
Using eggs on your hair can also help improve hair growth. Your hair is mainly protein, and using eggs on hair gives your hair the extra protein that your hair needs.

You’ll Need:

  • 1 Egg white
  • 1 tsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp raw Honey

What to Do:

  • Mix all the ingredients to create this hair mask.
  • Gently massage the mixture into your scalp and wrap it with a shower cap or a plastic bag.
  • Let it sit for 20-30 minutes and wash it off with mild shampoo and conditioner if needed.

Try one of these remedies, or try several to see which one works best for you.

      hi Rani,
Try using the onion juice remedy twice a week for 2 – 3 months (must be in regular basis) to see improvements. This is not an overnight result as we are using natural ingredients that actually help. Just be patient and do this routine regularly.

      hi Shumaila,

1.) You can add the mixture of “fresh” aloe vera in your onion juice as well. But I suggest that you simply use the onion juice alone.
2.) Just use one option at a time to evaluate which option will work for you best. Meaning, if you will try the onion juice, use it regularly for about
      2 – 3 months to see improvements.
3.) After rinsing hair, you can use the aloe vera hairspray.
4.) Use this routine 2 or 3 times a week.
5.) You will normally see results within 2 – 3 months of consistent use.
