Next time you think about visiting the hairstylist and paying a hefty amount for a procedure that is supposed to leave your hair smooth and silky, do yourself a favor and give these DIY hair masks a chance.

You will discover that for a fraction of the amount paid in a beauty salon you will enjoy the same results, in a sustainable and all natural manner. From that point onward you will have no reason to go back to your expensive ways.

Creating a mask at home isn’t as difficult as it sounds. Most of the ingredients are things lying around your kitchen anyway, so you’ll know exactly what’s going on your hair. Not to mention you’ll be saving some money too.

These five DIY hair mask ideas below are simple to do and take no longer than 30 minutes of your time.

Fine, Lifeless Hair:
Just because your hair isn’t thick or unruly, doesn’t mean there aren’t benefits to a moisturizing mask. Banana, egg, and oils work wonders on fine hair.

The banana is one of nature’s best remedies for thinning hair; the egg is a mighty protein that will give your hair the strength, shine, volume, and texture of your dreams; and oils add strength and moisture.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tbsp of honey
  • 3 tbsp of virgin olive oil
  • 3 tbsp of buttermilk

Directions:
* Mash the banana and egg together. Once you have a smooth mixture, stir in the buttermilk, honey and olive oil.

* Apply it all over your hair and cover with shower cap and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing.

* You will be left with revived, healthy-looking hair.

Itchy Scalp:
Send falling flakes packing with a mask filled with nurturing oils (like coconut, jojoba, and olive). Mayonnaise and avocados are also natural deep conditioners which will give your scalp a little TLC.

Option 1: You’ll Need:

  • 3 tbsp Virgin organic coconut oil (or you can use olive or jojoba oil
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 Avocado, pitted and skinned

Directions:
Mix the three ingredients and apply to your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for 30 minutes and rinse as usual.

Option 2: You’ll Need:

  • Virgin organic coconut oil
  • Lemon Juice
  • Grapefruit Juice

Directions:
* Mix 4 tablespoons coconut oil with 1 tablespoon grapefruit juice and 2 tablespoons lemon juice.

* Apply this mixture to your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for 20-30 minutes and rinse as usual.

Grapefruit contains medicinal properties that are essential for the growth of thicker and healthier hair strands.grapefruit is a good natural hair loss treatment for women. It is an excellent anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and anti-depressant agent.

*If you suffer from dandruff or other hair conditions characterized by a dry and flaking scalp, applying grapefruit essential oil can help reduce these problems.

Brittle Hair:
If your split ends never seem to disappear, a protein-filled mask might be what you need. This is one of my favorite hair masks as avocado is loaded with proteins and Vitamins (especially Vit E) that are essential to repair, nourish and hydrate damaged, lackluster hair.

Olive oil is known as a great moisturizer that attracts and seal the moisture that treats split ends and brings your hair back to life.

While egg whites will seep into the hair, making your hair follicles stronger and healthier. In addition, the nutrients found in egg whites work much like conditioners to add shine, texture, and volume.

eggs-and-olive

You’ll Need:

  • 1 avocado, pitted and skinned
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

Directions:
* Puree the avocado in a blender or mash it using fork and mix with olive oil and the egg whites until you obtain a creamy consistency like conditioner.

* Apply the mixture to each section of your hair, cover with a shower cap and let sit for 30 – 45 minutes.

* Shampoo and rinse thoroughly and style as usual.

Dry, Dull Hair:
If your strands are in need of extra moisture, revive and re-hydrate your hair with this easy recipe and mix in a blender:

You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 ounces water

Directions:
* Begin by wetting your hair with warm water to open the hair follicle. Comb the mask through the hair to ensure even application.

* Once the mask is applied, sit under a hooded dryer with a processing cap for a minimum of 15 to 20 minutes to allow the hair to absorb the nutrients. Or wrap your hair with a shower cap or a plastic bag.

* Afterwards, rinse your hair with cool water to close the cuticle and lock in moisture.

* Finally, hydrate with conditioner and then do a final rinse.

Hydrating Oil Mask

You’ll Need:

  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp honey

Directions:
* Heat up the olive oil for 20 seconds in the microwave before mixing it up with the honey.

* After you have applied it to your hair, put a shower cap on for about 20 minutes.

* Finish by rinsing your hair and styling as usual.

A Mask to Fight Frizz

You’ll Need:

  • 1/2 cup of yogurt

    * Your frizz will be under control if you do this at least once a month.

    * Once everything is mixed together, heat it up in the microwave for 20 seconds.

    * Slather all over your hair and after 30 minutes wash it all out.

    Oily Hair Mask

    You’ll Need:

    • 5 tbsp of plain yogurt
    • 1 tbsp of baking soda
    • 1 tbsp of lemon juice

    Directions:
    * Mix the three ingredients together and rub all over your hair focusing on the roots.

    * After 30 minutes rinse off. If your hair is extra oily try doing this mask once a week.
