The little things are important, especially when it comes to caring for your skin. Make just a few beauty mistakes, and your skin will pay for it in the future.

Most people are making little beauty blunders that add up. Here are some of the most common beauty mistakes and a look at why they are such a problem.

beauty-mistakes-1

Mistake #1 – Only Drinking 8 Glasses of Water

We’ve all hear about the benefits of drinking water. Water helps to keep the body hydrated, ensures your skin is moisturized and flushes away toxins, so you avoid breakouts.

You’re probably counting out those eight glasses of water each day to make sure you reap those skin benefits. Unfortunately, you might not be drinking enough.

Everyone has different hydration needs based on the climate, activity levels, weight, diet and overall health. Active people require more water.

People who weight more may need more water. If you live in a hot, dry climate, you may need more water. Try using a water calculator to find out how much water your body needs each day.

What’s your number? Try the water calculator here. Remember, the skin is the last area to receive water. Water goes to important organs and your digestive system first.

This means that your skin will be the first thing to show it if you’re not getting enough water.

Mistake #2 – Failing to Apply Enough Sunscreen

You already know that it’s important to apply sunscreen daily. However, you may not be applying enough sunscreen. According to researchers, most people only use half what they should when they apply sunscreen.

If you’re using SPF 30 sunscreen and you’re not applying enough, you could only be ending up with SPF 15 protection.

How much should you use? You should apply about a teaspoon each on your back, each leg, the stomach and your chest. For the arms, neck, and head, apply about ½ teaspoon each. Sunscreen should probably re reapplied every few hours for the best results.

Mistake #3 – Forgetting the Shades

Most people think that wearing shades is a great fashion statement. However, sunglasses go beyond fashion. They are essential for keeping your skin looking beautiful.

If you don’t wear sunglasses when you’re in the sun, the delicate skin around the eye area will suffer. Skip your sunglasses, and you’ll increase your chance of dealing with cataracts and vision deterioration. It could also make eyes look bad now.

The skin under and around the eyes contains melanin, just like all your other skin. This melanin reacts to the sun and can result in pigmentation that causes dark circles.

Squinting all the time without your shades can also increase the chance that you’ll end up with wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet.

If you’re making these beauty mistakes, it’s easy to fix them. If you want better skin, make sure you’re getting enough water, apply plenty of sunscreens and grab your shades when you head outdoors.
