If you’ve been looking for natural acne remedies, you’ll quickly find that many different remedies exist. This makes it difficult to figure out which ones you should give a shot.
I’ve compiled a list of some of the top natural remedies that have proven effective for me. They are powerful remedies that offer great results.
For years, I’ve dealt with horrible acne. I’ve tried natural remedies, over the counter products and prescription medications. However, after everything I’ve tried, I found that the best results have come from the natural acne remedies.
Of course, everyone responds differently to remedies, so you may need to try a few different remedies before you find the one that works best for you. Just be patient and avoid giving up.
When I was about 13, acne ruined my life. It appeared and stuck around, worsening as I went through my teens. My parents kept saying it would go away by high school.
Then they said it would be gone by college. Unfortunately, I continued dealing with acne through high school, college and even after college. Many people see improvement as they age, but I didn’t. It was so frustrating to deal with blemishes all the time.
Understanding Little-Known Causes of Acne
The first thing I want to share with you is some of the little-known causes of acne. In many cases, your doctor won’t share these causes with you, which leaves you out of the loop.
- First of all, don’t trust anyone! Make sure you don’t trust all the dermatologists and doctors that tell you that natural acne remedies won’t provide results.
Don’t believe that idea that diet doesn’t impact your skin. Many doctors will tell you that you can’t do anything about your acne except to take prescription medications. This isn’t the truth!
- The foods you eat actually can cause acne. This means that your diet really matters. Make sure you’re avoiding processed, greasy and sugary foods.
Get healthy fats and eat fresh, clean foods that improve your health. In some cases, dairy may exacerbate acne.
- Get a blood test! Sometimes nutritional and vitamin deficiencies can cause acne. Get tested to make sure you aren’t dealing with deficiencies that are causing your acne problem.
Ensure that you’re getting enough zinc and vitamin A since both have an impact on skin health. You may even want to have hormone and thyroid levels tested to make sure there’s not an underlying medical condition causing your acne.
- Sometimes allergies can cause acne breakouts. Find out if you have an allergy, such as an allergy to dairy, eggs, gluten or yeast. If you do, the allergy could be causing your problem.
Certain food allergies may result in a leaky gut, which can result in nutritional deficiencies and other problems that may manifest themselves in acne breakouts.
10 The Top Natural Remedies for Acne Treatment:
Now that you’re aware of some of the little-known causes of acne, it’s time to look at some of the best natural remedies for acne. If you haven’t had any luck with OTC treatments or prescription medications for acne, give some of these remedies a try. They are natural, safe and effective.
① Remedy #1 – Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar offers a powerful home remedy for acne, since the vinegar has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help eliminate the bacteria that causes acne.
For the best results, use unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar, looking for products that have “with the mother” on the label, since these products have more important nutrients.
How To:
To treat acne, combine two teaspoons of water with two teaspoons of the apple cider vinegar. Apply to the affected areas daily.
② Remedy #2 – Baking Soda
One of the best natural acne remedies is something you can buy for about $1 per box at the grocery store – baking soda. You probably already have some in your kitchen.
Baking soda offers many benefits. It helps to reduce inflammation, eliminates acne and helps exfoliate skin, sloughing away dead skin cells.
Not only does it treat current breakouts, but it also helps to eliminate acne scars as well.
How To:
Mix baking soda with enough water to make a paste. Apply as a mask, leaving on the skin for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse away with warm water.
As you get used to the mask, you can leave it on skin even longer. You’ll see an immediate difference after using it and you’ll continue to see improvement as you use the mask regularly.
③ Remedy #3 – Tea Tree Oil
Another top natural remedy for acne is tea tree oil. In fact, it’s often included in natural acne products you can purchase over the counter. This essential oil is extremely powerful, since it has antibacterial properties.
How To:
Since it is very strong, mix together equal parts water and tea tree oil. Using a cotton ball, apply to affected skin. Leave it on skin. You can apply a couple times a day.
④Remedy #4 – Coconut Oil
Coconut oil makes a great natural acne remedy because it has antifungal and antibacterial properties. It is very gentle on skin and moisturizes as well. When you use coconut oil, it will help reduce the bacteria that causes acne while reducing inflammation and redness.
How To:
Simply massage the oil into skin once or twice a day. Not only does it treat acne, but it stands in place of a moisturizer.
Make sure you use organic, unrefined coconut oil to enjoy the best results.
⑤ Remedy #5 – Ice Cubes
To reduce some of the inflammation that comes with acne, simply rub a clean ice cube over the affected area. It will help reduce redness and inflammation while closing and reducing the size of your pores.
⑥ Remedy #6 – Egg Whites
While egg whites offer a tasty, healthy breakfast, they also make a great topical treatment for acne as well. The egg whites help to draw impurities out of pores while minimizing pore size.
How To:
Separate egg whites from yolks and then apply the egg white directly to skin like a mask. Leave on skin for 10-30 minutes.
You’ll begin feeling the mask tighten after just a few minutes. Rinse the mask away and skin looks tighter, healthier and gorgeous.
⑦ Remedy #7 – Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is used for many skincare issues and it works wonderfully as a natural acne treatment as well.
How To:
Simply apply a bit of Aloe Vera gel directly to skin a couple times each day. It helps to eliminate redness and inflammation while soothing your skin.
Of course, it’s best to use the gel directly from an Aloe Vera plant.
⑧ Remedy #8 – Lemon Juice
Fresh squeezed lemon juice effectively treats acne. Lemons have natural astringent and antibacterial properties. This helps to eliminate bacteria, close pores and clear up the acne on skin.
How To:
Dab fresh lemon juice on acne affected areas, then let it sit on skin for about 15-60 minutes.
However, lemon juice can make skin more susceptible to sun damage, so use sunscreen.
⑨ Remedy #9 – Garlic
Garlic offers great antibacterial properties, whether you eat it or apply it topically to skin.
How To:
To treat acne, slice a clove of garlic and rub the cut side of the garlic over the skin, focusing on applying the juice to problem areas.
Let the juice sit on skin for 15-30 minutes and then gently rinse away with warm water. It doesn’t smell the greatest, but it does offer great results.
⑩ Remedy #10 – Cornstarch
Last, cornstarch can be used to treat acne, and it gently soothes away irritation and redness.
How To:
Apply to the entire face or directly to breakouts. You can even leave the cornstarch on skin overnight for great benefits when you wake up.
I’ve enjoyed great results with these natural acne remedies and you can too. Start trying these remedies to find the one that finally eliminates your breakouts.
hi ther.. my skin turns a bit dark after exfoliating with baking soda… wat cud be the reason..???
@Nammi,
Using baking soda for exfoliation doesn’t make your skin dark actually. I knew that because I’ve been using it for years. I believe your skin turned dark because of lack of protection when you spend time outdoors. Always protect your skin with sunblock with SPF 15+ every time you stay outdoors, or better stay away from the sun (if possible).
i use parachute coco oil on face.. i live in india and Virgin org. oil is nt available here … after 4 or 5 days of usng it i found my skin tone bit dark..i have oily skin.. shud i stop here as i dnt wana turn dark
@Tanvi,
Extra Virgin Coconut oil is a natural sunscreen, it blocks about 20% of UV rays when applied. Although this may seem like a lower amount of sun protection, when re-applied often and used in conjunction with limiting too much sun exposure, it should be all you need. But if you stay longer outdoors, this is not enough protection for you. Try using the sunblock with SPF15+ and re-apply every 2 hours for maximum protection.
