Best Vitamins for Skin

Vitamins are well known for improving general health, boosting the immune system and aiding in the growth of health nails and hair. It is not surprising that the right vitamins can result in gorgeous skin. While good skincare is essential for beautiful, healthy skin, your skin reflects what you put in your body as well.

Getting the right vitamins, whether you get them from your food or you take vitamin supplements, can improve your skin. Here is a look at some of the best vitamins to include in your vitamin cocktail for fabulous skin.

Vitamin C

What It Does: Vitamin C is an important vitamin for skin health. This antioxidant helps to keep skin protected from free radicals and toxins, reducing the signs of aging, including wrinkles and fine lines. This vitamin also works as an anti-inflammatory, reducing inflammation in the body, including your skin.

Where to Find It: Moisturizers and serums. To increase the amount of vitamin C you get in your diet, add strawberries, oranges, red peppers and grapefruit to your diet.

How to Use It: Apply Vitamin C in the morning, before sunscreen, to protect your skin from free radicals caused by sun damage.

Vitamin A

What It Does: Another vitamin to add to your cocktail is vitamin A. This vitamin is especially helpful at removing dark sports. The retinoids in vitamin A help to increase cell turnover, boost collagen production and reduce the appearance of lines. This leads to smooth, toned skin.

Where to Find It: Vitamin A derivatives are known as retinoids and present in many beauty products. You can usually find Vitamin A in lotions, night creams and prescription products. To get the benefits of vitamin A, try taking a vitamin A supplement, using a cream that includes retinoids, or add foods like cantaloupe, sweet potatoes and dark leafy greens to your diet.

How to Use It: It’s best to apply your retinoid at night, as they can make your skin more sensitive to sun. Retinoids can be very powerful, so avoid irritation by applying every second or third night initially and build up to nightly use.

What It Does: Biotin is known to help give you healthy, beautiful hair, but it also is important for healthy, glowing skin as well. Biotin regulates that metabolism of fatty acids within the body, which aids in the repair of irritated and dry skin.

Where to Find It:Foods that contain biotin include almonds, walnuts and romaine lettuce. You can also take a biotin supplement for gorgeous skin, nails and hair.

Vitamin B3

What It Does:Vitamin B (specifically Vitamin B3) boosts hydration, reduces redness and inhibits the transfer of pigment to skin cells, therefore minimizing dark spots. It is specifically beneficial for people with dry or sensitive skin, and some studies support its benefits for reducing rosacea. This vitamin also helps to increase the production of fatty acids and ceramides within skin and may also reduce problems with acne. Start eating mushrooms, chicken or tuna to increase your intake of this vitamin.

Where to Find It: Often called niacinamide, Vitamin B3 can be found in lotions, creams, and serums.

How to Use It: For maximum results, apply B vitamins in the morning and evening. It’s also great to apply both Vitamin A (retinoid) and Vitamin B (niacinamide) simultaneously, as Vitamin B could calm possible irritation from retinoids, and the combination is said to provide even greater anti-aging benefits.

What It Does: Zinc also offers a number of benefits to your skin, reducing inflammation and scarring, which benefits individuals dealing with acne. It also helps to repair skin tissue that has been damaged, which is beneficial for those who have skin damage from the sun.

Where to Find It:To get more zinc in your diet, start adding more beans, beef, spinach and seafood to your diet.

Vitamin E

What It Does: Last, vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to protect and repair skin cells. This means that it is especially helpful in reducing damage that has occurred from the sun.

Where to Find It: Sunscreens and after-sun products. Since vitamin E is not produced by the body, you need to get it from your diet or a supplement. Avocados, tofu, nuts and spinach all contain significant amounts of vitamin E.

How to Use It: Vitamin E is a natural armor against UV radiation, so apply the product before and after sun exposure. Also consider applying Vitamin C and E simultaneously, as the duo provides greater protection against free radicals when used together.
