80’s Fashion Trends

80’s fashion was the era of stone-washed jeans, big hair, leg warmers and big pads shoulders which were one of the few eccentric styles you’ve experienced.

It was the career peak of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and Boy George to name a few who provided new source of inspirations although some with the good, there comes the bad.

But the 80’s fashion didn’t just stay in the 80’s era because the 80’s fashion and style continue to come back and haunt us with the look that we used to laugh occasionally while reminiscing back the past.

Remember the puffball skirts, Leggings, leg-warmers or prom dress that have found their way back into the fashion scene in the recent years. Even the occurrence of acid washed jeans became acceptable clothing of distinctive style we’ve seen from celebrities nowadays.

And of course, the Leggings which undoubtedly, were one of the elements of the 80’s fashion that made a big comeback couple years ago and are widely accepted in the fashion trend now even with fashionistas.

What to Wear to a Wedding

Wedding Guest Style for Her

• Wear a short dress or suit (like business attire OK for morning weddings) for Informal Daytime

• Wear a Cocktail dress for Informal Evening

• Wear a Short dress or suit for Semi-Formal Daytime

• Wear a Cocktail dress for Semi-formal Evening

• Wear a short dress or suit (Hats and gloves optional) for Formal Daytime

• Wear a Long or dressy short cocktail (beading, glam accessories, wrap) for Formal Evening or Black-Tie

• Wear a Long gown, extra glitz (furs, diamonds, etc.) for Ultra-formal or White Tie

Do’s and Don’ts for Her

• Don’t compete with the bride by wearing white color clothing

• Don’t wear sequins or black during the daytime.

• Don’t be concerned about wearing similar colors as the mothers or the bridesmaids as you cant possibly coordinate with everyone in the wedding party

• Do wear something appropriate and feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts. Overly sexy clothing (strapless, see-through, etc) or Club wear doesn’t belong at a wedding

• Don’t wear gloves (to top of the arm like opera-length) with anything but strapless gowns or sleeveless.

• Do take off gloves while eating or drinking

• Do use a pastel suit or soft floral dress for daytime or little black dress for evening if the formality of the event is not specified. A sound judgment in choosing your outfit will take you just about anywhere.

Wedding Style for Him

• Wear Dress shirt and pants, preferably a sports jacket for Informal Daytime
• Wear suit for Informal Evening

• Wear suit for Semi-Formal Daytime

• Wear Dark Suit for Semi-Formal Evening

• Wear Dark Suit and tie for Formal Daytime

• If invitation states “Black tie” wear Tuxedo or dark suits if women wear short dresses for Formal Evening

• Wear White tie, vest and shirt for Ultra-formal Evening or White Tie:

Do’s and Don’ts for Him

• A black tux with black bow tie and white shirt is the best way to go but if “Creative Black Tie” or “Texas Formal” or some sort of other vague formal description is used, then going with a tux and black shirt, no tie, might be acceptable. Also, trendier cities like New York and Los Angeles might be more accepting of breaking with tradition.

• Do wear a dark suit, with a tie if the wedding is after 6 PM, and doesn’t say “Black Tie.”

• Don’t wear a tuxedo during the day time, regardless of the formality of the event.

• Do use a dark suit and conservative tie if the invitation doesn’t specify the formality of the event. A sound judgment in choosing your outfit will take you just about anywhere
